Takata Airbag Inflator Limited Warranty Extension

This document modifies the
Volkswagen Warranty Policies and
Procedures Manual.
Takata Airbag Inflator Limited Warranty Extension
For vehicles applicable to the Takata Airbag Inflator Recalls, Volkswagen has extended the Warranty coverage for
the Driver and Passenger Takata Airbag Inflator under the following parameters following the completion of the
Takata recall:
10 years from the date the recall was
completed
or
150,000 miles from the vehicles original
in-service date
(whichever occurs first)

Default Coverage
*Once the Default Coverage has expired, the vehicle only needs to meet the time OR mileage (whichever is GREATER) to apply.
The vehicle’s original in-service date is defined as the date the vehicle was delivered to either the original
purchaser or the original lessee; or if the vehicle was first placed in service as a “demonstrator” or “company” car,
on the date such vehicle was first placed in service.
Takata Airbag Inflator Limited Warranty Extension is applicable for certain Volkswagen vehicles:
 2009-2017 CC
 2010-2016 Eos
 2010-2014 Golf
 2012-2015 Passat
 2006-2008 2010 Passat Sedan
 2006-2008 2010 Passat Wagon
 2012-2019 Beetle
 2012-2019 Beetle Convertible
What is Covered
Following the completion of a Takata Airbag Inflator Recall and during the time/mileage period specified above,
an authorized Volkswagen Dealer will diagnose and replace the Driver and/or Passenger Takata Airbag Inflator at
no cost to the customer if diagnosis confirms that the Driver and/or Passenger Takata Airbag Inflator has failed
from a warranty defect.

Warranty Information
If diagnosis reveals that the vehicle has an unrelated issue(s), diagnosis and any necessary repairs to correct such
issue(s) will not be covered under this warranty extension.
Transferability
This warranty extension is fully transferable to subsequent owners.
Additional information
This warranty extension does not cover damage or malfunctions caused by outside influence, such as an accident,
or vehicle misuse or neglect, nor does it cover repairs that are necessary for proper diagnosis of these conditions
or that are required to bring the vehicle up to factory specifications.
Inoperable vehicles, vehicles with the totaled status, salvaged, rebuilt or flood damage title are excluded from
coverage under this Warranty Extension.
Vehicle Eligibility
To determine if a vehicle is eligible for the Takata Airbag Inflator Limited Warranty Extension, check the VIN in
Elsa > Vehicle Data. The “Warranty” section of the “Vehicle Data” screen will show Warranty Key “U52” indicating
this vehicle is eligible for this Warranty Extension.
If the warranty extension is applicable to the vehicle, the "Enhanced Coverage" section of the "Vehicle Data"
screen in Elsa will be populated with the warranty extension parameters.
SAGA Claiming Procedures
Dealers must use the following Claim Type and Service Number when submitting warranty extension claims for
the Takata Airbag Inflator Limited Warranty Extension.
