Technical Service Bulletin 1 06/18/2020 Initial publication Customer states: • Noises from the suspension. • There is an oil film on the shock absorbers. Note: This information is specifically for the shock absorber of the Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) system PR Code 2MC. Technical Background Not applicable. Production Solution Not applicable. Service 1. An oil film running down a shock absorber indicates that it leaks. The shock absorber must only be replaced if this leak can be clearly assigned to it, as shown in the picture. (Figure 1) Figure 1. Technical Service Bulletin 2. A minor oil film and a resulting dirt build-up are no indication of a leak. They result from oil residues during the installation or caused by "sweating" of the shock absorber. There is no restriction in the function of the shock absorber. Tests with such components show that the shock absorbers are in perfect working order. Do not replace any components. The following illustrations show examples of non-leaking or "sweating" shock absorbers (Figures 2 - 4). Figures 2, 3, and 4. Oil marks/residues in the wheel housing/shock absorber.
