Technical Service Bulletin • DTC B116831 (Steering angle sensor no signal) with symptom code 166. Technical Background There is a voltage drop in power steering control module, J500 (address word 0044). Production Solution Not applicable. Service Possible root causes: • This DTC is logged in the power steering control module, J500 (address word 0044) briefly, because it does not participate in the data bus communication during the start procedure. • This can be caused by a voltage drop in the power steering control module, J500 (address word 0044). • The main fuse carrier may be the cause. 1. When the vehicle is started, the voltage should not drop by more than 1 Volt at contact 4 on the fuse carrier. This is the power supply to the power steering control module, J500 (address word 0044) (Figure 1). Figure 1. Fuse carrier’s power supply to the power steering control module, J500 (address word 0044). 2. If the voltage drops more than 1 Volt then the fuse carrier must be replaced. Replace the fuse carrier according to the instructions in the Elsa Repair Manual. 3. If this procedure does not lead to an improvement, continue the diagnosis on other components of the power supply for the power steering. Review the battery history data to help find the voltage drop. © 2021 Audi of America, Inc. Page 2 of 4 All rights reserved.
