Today, March 5, 2016, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. is announcing a product update for 26,764 model year 2016
Pilot vehicles with roof molding that may be loose or detach.
Basic Problem
By design, the 2016 model year Pilot vehicles have a wide distance between front and rear edge of roof molding.
Vehicles that were produced before September 8, 2015 have molding clips with insufficient strength to maintain/restrain
the molding in high cross winds situations or at carwash dryers.
The Repair
Affected vehicles will receive a repair by adding and replacing existing retention clips with updated clips and adding
several more clips. Vehicles produced after September 8, 2015 are not affected as the factory applied a production line
countermeasure. For customer satisfaction any unsold or used vehicles in dealer stock should be repaired prior to sale.
Service Bulletin
Service bulletin 16-021, Product Update: Roof Molding has been posted to the Service Information System today in
support of this campaign. It includes parts, warranty and repair procedure information related to this product update.
Parts Information
In support of the repair a required parts kit is available for orders. Please check your bulletin for the kit part number and
order according to affected vehicles in your dealer inventory and customer base.
As always, please make sure to check iN VIN status to determine if a particular vehicle is eligible for this product update.
