• Recall 63023 [USA]: Severe corrosion could result in perforation and potential fracture of the front lower control arm. if this fracture occurs, the tire and wheel assembly remains connected to the chassis through the forward lower control arm pivot point and through the strut attachment to the upper wheelhouse. reduced control of the front wheel location increases the risk of a crash.

During winter months, large quantities of salt are used to de-ice roads. This road salt could result in corrosion of the front lower control arms.

  On certain vehicles, road de-icing salt used during winter months may result in corrosion of the lower plate or the front lower control arm. Corrosion may proceed to the point where the lower plate becomes perforated and the front lower control arm fractures between its forward and rearward pivot attachments to the chassis. If the front lower control arm fractures, the wheel assembly may be allowed to move rearward in the wheel well opening during braking. Reduced control of the front wheel location may increase the risk of a vehicle crash. Correction: dealer will replace the front lower control arm.

• Front suspension lower control arm investigation # PE02055

  On december 18th, 2002 hyundai america technical center, inc. (hyundai) submitted a defect information report regarding approximately 47,000 1995 and 1996 hyundai accent vehicles registered in salt belt states.According to hyundai, these vehicles were manufactured with front suspension lower control arms with an interior partition wall.The partition wall restricts the coverage of paint to the interior surfaces of the control arm.When operated in areas of the country that use road salt for de-icing, the lower control arm can corrode over time.This corrosion can lead to perforation and can possibly fracture between the front and rear pivot points of the arm.Such a fracture limits the front suspensions ability to control front to back movement of the wheel.Under braking, the front wheel can contact the wheelhouse.All known failures have occurred in salt belt states.Vehicles will be inspected for lower control arm corrosion damage and, if damaged, the arms will be replaced.

Rim rusted through causing tire to go flat.

While driving the car, the lower front control arm corroded through and broke. Car was very unstable and tires wore down fast. There was a previous recall on this control arm it was campaign number 02v341000. Service was done by hyundai in 9/2003 and part corroded and broke in 1/2007. Either service was not done correctly or poor quality parts were used. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 25 mph, a cracking noise was heard coming from the front left end of the vehicle and the front left tire began to rub on the back of the wheel well during braking. On inspection by an independent mechanic, the problem was identified as a failure of the lower control arm and coil spring on the front left side. There was a recall (02v341000) regarding the suspension, lower control arm. The service dealer had inspected the control arm for rust and applied an undercoating to the part on 8/12/2003. The manufacturer had provided the recall numbers to the contact and referred the issue back to the service dealer. The service dealer determined the window of opportunity had passed for a free replacement part.

Nhtsa campaign 95v00300; hyundai issued a high/low dimmer switch recall. This vehicle was not included in the recall, but the lights came on by itself while the vehicle was off and the high beams came on unexpectedly. The vin was outside the remedy scope. *jb

Consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer for routine maintenance, and mechanic determined that both front driver and passenger side ball joints needed to be replaced due to corrosion. *ak

While driving consumer was locking the doors and it was discovered that the doors did not lock from the inside or the outside. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and dealer could not determine why the doors will not lock. *ak

During summer months, the high tempature effects my 1995 hyundai accent. The transmission has trouble shifting from first gear to second. This problem only happens when it is hot outside or i have taken a long drive, like on the highway. I have had transmission specialists examine the transmission and test all the sensors twice. They have not been able to find the problem. *ak

The front lower control arm corroded without warning. Recall 02v341000 was issued, however this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin. *ak the lower front control arm corroded due to salt. The dealer would not honor the recall. Recall 98v245000 was also issued. *sc

This car had less than 40,000 miles when we purchased it in august, 2003. Since that time, both of the front door handles have broken from the outside, forcing the driver to open the car from the back doors. The cost of repair will be over $200. *la
