Known Recall Investigations
  • Trimark 060-1650 door latch failures investigation # PE20021

The office of defects (odi) is opening this preliminary evaluation (pe) on trimark 060-1650 model door latches manufactured with zinc plunger bolts from calendar year 2013 to 2016. Odi has received forty-six vehicle owner’s questionnaires (voqs) alleging door latch failures. Many of the failures describe consumers being locked in our out of their vehicles. The plunger bolt, made of zinc during the affected manufacturing years, becomes porous and brittle over time and can break without warning, resulting in the lock-in/lock-out condition. Additionally, the plastic bushing, which is needed to reduce friction between the drive elements and keep the latch release efforts smooth and low, can break and jam the lock to an inoperable state. Through communications with trimark, odi learned that these door latch failures are widespread across original equipment door manufacturers and different final stage vehicle manufacturers that use the 060-1650 model latch. This investigation has been opened to understand the frequency of latch failure and whether the failures are universal across the industry or limited to certain final stage manufacturers in specific vehicle applications. The odi reports cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.Nhtsa.Dot.Gov/owners/searchnhtsaid using the following complaint identification numbers: 11111891, 11312165, 11352178, 11040852, 11110475, 11118508, 11228739, 11228739, 11230464, 11230464, 11278257, 11343363, 11016475, 11088692, 11089428, 11099251, 11110381, 11110431, 11128222, 11130238, 11132271, 11149731, 11180695, 11265710, 11302531, 11340907, 10929929, 11021492, 11021705, 11030206, 11032978, 11090292, 11098056, 11128128, 11160521, 11300826, 11078987, 11081911, 11104930, 11342532, 11143346, 11277308, 11364743, 11365145, 11321971, 11327052.

On april 06, 2018, a technician performed a repair to my windshield wiper system by tightening the main bracket and adding extra screws to secure the assembly. However, on 06/26/2018 the problem resurfaced. The passenger side wiper got stuck under the driver side wiper during a rainstorm while i was driving on an expressway. I am attaching a picture of the problem. This problem has now happened twice and i am concerned that this will happen again and cause an accident. While driving on an interstate highway during a rainstorm, the passenger-side wiper got stuck under the driver-side wiper and both wipers stopped. We had to quickly stop and remove the passenger-side wiper so at least the driver-side wiper would work.

Had recall for wipers performed but the problem of the passenger side wiper getting stuck behind the driver side wiper still persists. When this happens neither wiper will move causing a complete lack of visibility in moderate to heavy rain. Happened to me twice on the freeway prior to having the recall completed and the day of having the recall completed it happened on the way home. It seems the passenger side wiper is overdriving and the mechanism is making a complete 360 degree rotation instead of rocking back and forth.

Upon delivery of this new motorhome i noticed i can not keep it steering down the road .After talking with camping world and thor, they said it is a ford problem. After talking with ford ,they said it is a thor problem. I then took it to a ford truck dealer and they said the toe was out so bad ,they cant believe i got it to them. Thor said its in their warranty manual to have the front end aligned. Please keep in mind that this is a straight axle suspension and not a independent suspension. Their is no caster - camber adjustment, just toe. After talking to tom overton at thor he said they will not cover the cost to align the front end. So i asked him to switch me over to a manager and he hung up on me. According to the web their is thousands of motorhomes on the road with bad alignments waiting to cause accidents. Thor refuses to respond to any calls or written mail, maybe you can have better luck.

On april 28 and 29, 2016, my husband and i experienced a wiper failure on our new thor hurricane purchased march 29, 2016. We were coming down a mountain on interstate 77 outside charolette, north carolina when, in a heavy rain storm, the passenger side wiper arm traveled below the lower portion of the windshield also causing the driver side not to work as well. It was a horific experience and shouldn't have happened on such a new vehicle. We stopped by a repair facility and had the wiper linkage hardware tightened and adjusted but experience the same thing the next day on april 29. We contacted thor, who told us this was very unusual and we were the only ones to have this happen. They ordered a complete wiper assembly and we had it installed on june 6, 2016. Since then weve experienced the wiper blade on the passenger side not staying on, and had to pay for a replacement even though thor replaced the entire assembly to include arms and blades. We have photos and a video after the 2nd failure showing how the passenger side wiper arm will slowly move farther down past its normal resting place and eventually cause the drivers side to not function
