SB-10023751-4360 File in Section: Service Bulletin Bulletin No.: Date: PIP4290A February, 2013 PRELIMINARY INFORMATION Subject: Engine Surge Or Stall At Stop And Or DTC P0742 Possible TCC Applied Models: 2007 - 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2003 - 2009 Chevrolet Kodiak 2001 - 2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic 2007 - 2013 GMC Sierra 2003 - 2009 GMC Topkick 2001 - 2007 GMC Sierra Classic Equipped With Allison LCT1000 Transmission RPO M74 or MW7 This PI was superseded to update models and model years. Please discard PIP4290. The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI. Condition/Concern Customer may comment that the vehicle will surge or stall when in gear at a stop. Technicians may find DTC P0742 (TCC System-Stuck On) or feel the TCC is applied. Recommendation/Instructions To help isolate if the concern is transmission internal or external use the following diagnosis. 1. With the engine off disconnect the 20 way connector at the transmission (C-175 for model years 2001 – 2007 and X-175 for model years 2008 – 2013). On 2006 – 2013 model years: Using a fused jumper wire, connect terminal R of the automatic transmission inline 20-way connector to a known good ground. 2. With the vehicle on a flat level surface start the engine and place in drive with service brakes applied. If the vehicle still stalls the concern has been isolated to the transmission. Inspect the TCC solenoid and valve in the main valve body. If the vehicle does not stall inspect wiring between the TCM and transmission if no concern is found swap the TCM into a known good vehicle after clearing any DTCs to determine if the concern follows the TCM. Note: Please refer to bulletin 02-07-30-042D before performing any repair on an Allison transmission installed in a C4500-C8500 Series Models that are currently under warranty. Note: The above information is meant only as a diagnostic aid and WILL NOT isolate an engine drivability related concern. Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
