PRELIMINARY INFORMATION
Subject:
Vehicle Fuels Slow, Cannot Refuel or Fuel Pump Frequently Shuts Off Before Tank is
Full (Replace Fuel Tank Filler Pipe)
Models:
2010 Cadillac SRX
2010 Chevrolet Equinox
2010 GMC Terrain
Condition/Concern
Some customers may comment that the vehicle must be fueled very slowly or intermittently does not want to accept
fuel without causing the pump to shut off prematurely.
Certain states across the country utilize a vapor recovery system on gas station fuel pump nozzles. This system is
easy to identify. You will notice a rubber seal around the fuel pump nozzle that seats against the vehicle's fuel
filler pipe.
Important: The vehicle should always accept fuel, however customers should be made aware that it is sometimes
expected that a service station fuel pump may shut off prematurely and/or not function properly when choosing the
maximum fueling rate on the nozzle.
Recommendation/Instructions
Check the engine control module (ECM) for any EVAP codes. If no codes are present, and the speed of refueling is a
consistent annoyance for the customer, a revised fuel tank filler pipe is available that may speed up the obtainable
rate of refueling. Refer to Fuel Filler Pipe Replacement in SI for instructions.
