(January 2012)
On certain VN day cab vehicles manufactured between August 15, 2011 and November
11, 2011, excessive noise may occur with the new style roof air fairing when there is no
sun visor installed. To resolve any noise issues related to the roof air fairing complete
the following procedure.

Procedure
You must read and understand the precautions and guidelines in Service Information,
group 80, "General Safety Practices, Cab" before performing this procedure. If you are
not properly trained and certified in this procedure, ask your supervisor for training before
you perform it.
DANGER
Do not attempt to repair or service a vehicle without the proper training, tools and service
information. Failure to do so may result in component damage, serious injury or death.
1 If applicable, loosen the exhaust stack band clamps for the upper stack pipe. Remove
the upper exhaust stack and place out of the work area.
Note: Mark the exhaust pipe to help with orientation and reassembly.

2 If applicable, with assistance, remove the fasteners securing the upper roof side fairings.
Remove both upper roof side fairings and place in a secure location.

3 Loosen the (2) fasteners on each side securing the lower roof fairing L-Bracket to the roof
mounted cab brackets.

4 Remove the (3) fasteners on each side securing the front of the lower roof fairing to the
roof. Inspect the cab sealing O-rings and washers are not damaged or lost.

5 Lift and tilt the roof air fairing assembly rearward. Safely support the front of the roof
fairing to gain access to the underside of the lower air fairing.

6 Using the vibration reduction brackets as a template mark the location of the holes to be
drilled for the vibration reduction brackets and fasteners. For a an accurate view of the
template mark locations refer to the previous illustration.

7 Drill the holes (8 mm diameter) through the fairing in the proper locations (1).

8 Install the foam blocks on the vibration reduction brackets. The pad(s) are applied to the
bracket at the end that will come in contact with the back of the roof fairing.
Note: The two center brackets require two foam pads per bracket. Pads should be
stacked one on top of the other. Do not put one pad on bracket and one pad on the
fairing. The outer brackets require only one foam pad per bracket.

9 Install the vibration reduction brackets on the lower roof fairing. Torque the fasteners to
14 ± 1 Nm (10 ± 0.7 ft-lb).

10 Install the (3) fasteners on each side of the lower air fairing with the washers and O-rings
in the correct orientation.
Note: Use the cab sealing O-ring to hold the washers in place on the bolt. Replace the
cab to air fairing sealing washers if damaged.

11 Carefully lower the roof fairing assembly onto the roof. Torque the front (6) fasteners to
24 ± 4 Nm (17 ± 3 ft-lb).

13 If applicable, with assistance, install both the upper roof side fairings into position. Install
the fasteners securing the upper roof side fairings and torque to 24 ± 4 Nm (17 ± 3 ft-lb).

14 If applicable, Install the upper exhaust stack into position. Use the alignment marks
previously made to help with the installation. Torque the exhaust stack band clamps to
61 ± 4 Nm (45 ± 3 ft-lb).
