SB-10043356-2525 Authorized Field Change AFC 11919 Date: January 2012 Subject File: ENGINE Subject: Engine ECM Failure — Export only Model: CE, FBC, FE, RE, and SFC Bus / 4300, 4400, 7300, and 7400 Truck Start Date: 05/05/2007 End Date: 06/22/2011 Engine Family: International® DT 466E, DT 466, 530, 530E, and HT 530 Diesel Engines DESCRIPTION On certain export vehicles built at the Escebedo assembly plant (for VINS where the 11th digit = N or L, e.g., 3H#####R88 N or L678###) and equipped with exhaust brake code 07SAZ and an International® DT 466E, DT 466, 530, 530E, or HT 530 engine, the fan may not turn off and the gauge cluster may not function correctly (gauges may go to the 6 o’clock position). All marks are trademarks of their respective owners. 1 PROCEDURE WARNING – To prevent vehicle damage, personal injury or death, park the vehicle on a flat, level surface. Make sure the engine ignition is in the off position, and the transmission is in the neutral or park position, if the vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission. Set the parking brake, block the wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving in both directions, and disconnect the batteries at the negative terminal before doing any service procedures on the vehicle. WARNING – To prevent personal injury or death, remove ground cable from negative terminal of main battery before disconnecting electrical components. Always connect ground cable last. WARNING – To prevent personal injury or death, make sure that the engine has cooled before removing components. WARNING – To prevent personal injury or death, always wear safe eye protection when performing vehicle maintenance. WARNING – To prevent personal injury or death, do not let engine fluids stay on your skin. Clean skin and nails using hand cleaner and wash with soap and water. Wash or discard clothing and rags contaminated with engine fluids. AFC–11919 2 SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Open hood and locate the engine exhaust brake solenoid on left side of engine. 2. Unplug the single wire connection at the exhaust brake solenoid. 3. Plug the overlay harness into the exhaust brake solenoid (See Figure 1, page 3 ). Figure 1 Exhaust brake solenoid 4. Plug the existing wire harness into the overlay harness that was added in step #3. 5. Remove the mounting bolt used to mount the exhaust brake solenoid. 6. Install new over lay harness ground eyelet over bolt. 7. Remove paint from engine block surface at tapped hole and attach ring terminal followed by applying dielectric grease over ring terminal. 8. Reinstall bolt and torque to 14.45 - 17.70 ft. lb. (19.6 - 24.0 N•m). 9. Route and clip overlay harness away from moving and hot components (See Figure 2, page 4 ). 3 AFC–11919 SERVICE PROCEDURE (CONT.) Figure 2 Overlay harness 10. Shut hood and latch. Table 2 Labor Information Operation No. A40-11919-1 Description Install jumper harness Time 0.3 hour ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE Expense is to be charged to Warranty. Claims are to be submitted in the normal manner, making reference to Authorized Field Change Number G-11919. It is important that the coding be completed properly to assist in processing the warranty claim. Complete instructions will be found in the Warranty Manual, Section 7-1. Special attention should be given to Items 39 through 44. To assure this important improvement is made in a timely manner, all claims for G-11919 activity must be submitted by January 31, 2013 or within the normal warranty period for the vehicle, if after January 31, 2013.
