SB-10043944-4834 File in Section: Service Bulletin Bulletin No.: Date: PIT4992C March, 2012 PRELIMINARY INFORMATION Subject: A Notchy Or Stick Slip Feel In The Steering When Turning Near The On-Center Position Models: 2010 - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox 2010 - 2012 GMC Terrain Vehicles equipped with electric steering assist This PI was superseded to update recommended field. Please discard PIT4992B. The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI. Condition/Concern: Some customers may complain of a notchy feel or stick slip in the steering wheel when turning. This happens near the on center position and is noticeable during a lane change typically. Recommendation/Instructions: Replace the steering gear assembly with part number 20857570 and two steering gear bolts #11610938 (per SI document #2262527), and any exhaust/catalytic converter gaskets that may become damaged during this repair.. Dealers should NOT replace the electric power steering "motor/module" for this condition. Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
