Page 1 of 5 SB-10044026-6395 SI B63 02 12 Lights April 2012 Technical Service SUBJECT Heavy Condensation in Xenon Headlights MODEL F25 (X3) Vehicles produced from August 31, 2010 to May 26, 2011 Only vehicles with option 522 (Xenon light) and 524 (Adaptive head lights) SITUATION In heavy rain conditions or high humidity, condensation may build up inside one or both headlight (s).The condensation is still present even after a few dry days. CAUSE Ventilation openings in the headlight assembly allow humidity inside the headlight(s). Condensation forms when the temperature changes. PROCEDURE 1. Inspect both headlights for condensation damage. Replace the affected headlight(s) that are permanently stained (cloudy). Note: Before installing the new replacement headlight(s), check to see if the ventilation openings are plugged (refer to step 4 below). If not, install the ventilation plugs (refer to step 5 below). If one or both headlights do not have permanent damage, proceed to step 2. 2. Remove the affected headlight(s). Refer to Repair Instructions in ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application) and REP 63 12 010 “Remove and installing or replacing left headlight (Xenon headlight)” and REP 63 12 012 “Remove and installing or replacing right headlight (Xenon headlight).” 3. Remove the cover on the rear of the headlight and allow the headlight to dry out. You can use dried compressed air or warm air. 4. The photo shows the three ventilation opening areas. 5. Install the new plugs (1) in the 2 upper holes with P/N 7 324 544, as shown in the photo. 6. Perform this on the other side if necessary. 8. Reassemble the vehicle.
