Instructions
Important: The information contained in this bulletin
applies only to the models listed. DEXRON HP cannot
be used in any other products power steering system.
Ensure the vehicle being serviced is listed in the
Models information above.
Some customers may comment that their vehicle is
experiencing a power steering noise/whine or fluid leak
from the power steering pump, gear or high pressure
side power steering hose during extreme low outdoor
temperature operation that the cold weather fluid
recommended in bulletin 12-02-32-002 may not
resolve.
To resolve this condition, replace any damaged power
steering system components. Refer to Power Steering
in SI for diagnosing and repairing steering system
component fluid leaks.
Flush the power steering system and refill with
DEXRON HP power steering fluid.
Provide the customer DEXRON HP fluid Part Number
information for their records for any future maintenance
needs.
Cause
During extremely low temperatures, -35°C (-31°F) or
lower (usually in the -40°C/F or less range), the power
steering fluid may thicken and the power steering
system pressures may rise, causing damage to various
components.
