RE: Product Update: 2014 Accord Plug-In Hybrid E-VTC Motor Software
Today, November 26, 2013, American Honda is announcing a product update for some 2014 Accord Plug-In Hybrid
vehicles. The product update involves updating the PGM-FI software to prevent damage to the E-VTC gear.
All affected units should be updated prior to sale to minimize customer inconvenience.
Basic Problem
The software loaded into the PGM-FI system during vehicle manufacture may allow the camshaft gear to impact its
stopper at excessively high speeds. This may lead to deformation of the sprocket gear, affecting engine output, and
subsequently placing additional strain on the hybrid battery, reducing its SOC and impacting the ability of the vehicle to
accelerate.
The Repair
All affected units require a software update to the PGM-FI system. In a very small number of cases, replacement of the EVTC actuator may also be necessary.
Service Bulletin
S/B 13-102, Product Update: E-VTC Software Update was posted to ISIS on November 26, 2013, in support of this
product update, and it includes warranty and repair information related to this PUD.
Software Information
Software to perform this product update is available in HDS software version 3.012.005(or later), which contains MVCI
application version 3.01.36/database update 23-OCT-2013. Make sure that all software is up to date prior to beginning
any repairs.
Customer Notification
American Honda expects to notify owners of affected vehicles in early December 2013.
