Introduction
This Technical Information Bulletin provides information needed for proactive inspections for certain
Cat CT660 On-Highway Trucks.
Problem
Certain Cat CT660 On-Highway Trucks could experience known product early hour failures.
Machines that are possibly affected include:
• (S/N: TLK101-472)
• (S/N: TRK107-1549)
• (S/N: TSY113,137)

Solution
These trucks will benefit from the completion of the following proactive truck inspection. One by one
go through the inspection sheet and perform all known documented repairs to each and every item on
the check sheet. Proper execution of these repairs will help reduce customer failures and down time.

1. Check for and apply all open "Service Letters" (Office
Support).
Check ET for Automatic Transmission Fault Codes.
3. Connect Engine Diagnostics and Check for Fault Codes.
Under Hood Inspection
1. Install 423-8712 Gasket for the Intake Throttle Valve if not
already installed.
2. Inspect grill mounting
3. Inspect elbow coming from air charge cooler making sure that
spring is in place.
4. Inspect Dipstick Tube for tube mounting brackets.
5. Inspect Radiator support Bracket.
Interior Cab Inspection
1. Inspect operation of all gauges in Dash cluster
2. Inspect HVAC ground wire
3. Operation of power windows. (should be fast and smooth not
slow or binding)
4. Inspect seat cover material for flaws. (torn material stitches
separated)
Chassis Inspection
1. Inspect Wheels / Axles / Transmission / Engine for leakage.
Recheck torque on axle studs / nuts.
2. Check carrier bearing alignment with Driveshaft components.

3. Check all Chassis and Engine wiring harnesses for rubbing/
chaffing / secure
4. Inspect air suspension and brake lines for rubbing / chaffing /
secure
5. Check operation of Lift Axle for proper operation of controls
and pressure switches.
6. Check ride height.
7. Inspect weld joint of torque arm on front and rear."Primaax
only"
Remove Quarter Fender and DOC Pipe
1. Inspect Quarter Fender mounting. Check for installation of
large body washer
2. Wrap TE wiring harness where harness crosses EGR tube with
heat resistant tape for additional harness protection
3. Inspect EGR tube for leaks. Rev the engine to perform check.
Install newest pipes as needed
4. Inspect A/C line from dryer to expansion valve. Look for
contact with brackets.
5. Inspect exhaust system and DPF for signs of leakage /
rubbing / loose clamps.
