SB-10058137-9331 GROUP CAMPAIGN Technical Service Bulletin DATE MARCH 2015 NUMBER 15-01-012 MODEL ELANTRA (UD) AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT LEVER CLIP INSTALLATION (SERVICE CAMPAIGN 933) SUBJECT: *** Retail Vehicles Only *** Dealers must perform this Service Campaign whenever an affected vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair. When a vehicle arrives at the Service Department, access Hyundai Motor America's "Warranty Vehicle Information" screen via WEBDCS to identify open Campaigns. Description: The end of the cable connecting the transmission range switch to the vehicle’s shift lever pin is fastened to the pin with a rubber grommet. The connection between the shifter cable and shift lever pin is critical to ensure proper gear selection (including placing the vehicle in Park). If the cable becomes disconnected and the vehicle is not in the Park position, the vehicle may roll if the parking brake is not applied. This bulletin provides the service procedure to: 1. Verify the connection between the cable and shift lever pin. 2. Install an “E-clip” on the shift lever pin as a supplemental method of securing the cable. Time 50CA06R0 E-Clip Installation 0.3 Circulate To: Service Manager, Warranty Manager, Service Advisors, Technicians, Fleet Repair SUBJECT: AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT LEVER CAMPAIGN Repair Procedure: 1. Apply the parking brake. 2 Use a trim tool to remove the left and right crash pad garnish. 3. Remove the shift knob. Without shift boot: Use a trim tool to slide the trim piece down. Use a small screwdriver to remove the clip. Remove the shift knob. TSB #: 15-01-012 With shift boot: Pull up on the shift knob until the knob is disconnected from the shift lever. Page 2 of 4 SUBJECT: AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT LEVER CAMPAIGN 4. Remove two screws that secure the console upper cover. 5. Use a plastic trim tool to remove the console upper cover. 6. Disconnect the connectors and lay the console cover on the floor. Move the shift lever to the N or D position. TSB #: 15-01-012 Page 3 of 4 AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT LEVER CAMPAIGN SUBJECT: 7. Use pliers to grasp the E-clip as shown. (Thin pliers are best for this procedure.) If thin pliers are not available, use small needle nose pliers to hold the E-clip in position on the shift lever pin and push the E-clip into position with a flat screwdriver. NOTICE If necessary, use a flat screwdriver to fully push the E-clip onto the pin. 8. Turn the ignition to the ON position and depress the brake pedal. Move the shift lever through gears P-R-ND and confirm the E-clip is securely installed. 9. Reassemble all parts in the reverse order of disassembly. Confirm the P-R-N-D lights illuminate in the dash cluster and on the console cover. TSB #: 15-01-012 Page 4 of 4
