BACKGROUND
During manufacturing, the gauge control module software installed did not meet specification. This bulletin covers a
non-compliance recall, a product update, and a service repair all resulting from the faulty software and remedied by the
software update:
Non-Compliance Recall: Gauge Control Module - There is a software bug affecting the gauge control module. When
the system experiences an FCAN BUS OFF, the system indicators on the gauge cluster do not turn on and the gauge
needles do not return to home position. As a result, affected vehicles do not comply with applicable Federal Motor
Vehicle Safety Standards.
Product Update: Odometer Mileage – The gauge control module adds mileage to the odometer each time the ON
mode is selected.
Auto Door Lock Settings – When the ignition is turned to OFF, the gauge control module clears the auto door lock
personalized settings and resets them to the default factory settings.
There were several software changes during vehicle assembly. As a result, there is another bulletin that will be released
in the near future. S/B 15-074, Product Update: Odometer Mileage, will repair vehicles that are not covered by this
recall. Make sure you use the iN VIN Status inquiry and use the correct bulletin to repair the vehicle.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
Owners of affected vehicles will be sent a notification of this campaign.
Do an iN VIN status inquiry to make sure the vehicle is shown as eligible.
Some vehicles affected by this campaign may be in your new or used vehicle inventory. These vehicles must be
repaired before they are sold.
Should your dealership sell an unrepaired vehicle that subsequently causes injury or damage because of the recalled
item, the dealership will be solely responsible to the damaged party, and will be required to defend and indemnify
American Honda for any resulting claims. To see if a vehicle in inventory is affected by this recall, do a VIN status
inquiry before selling it.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Update the software in the gauge control module.
NOTE: The one software update will fix all three issues listed under BACKGROUND.
CUSTOMER INFORMATION: The information in this bulletin is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools,
equipment, and training to correctly and safely maintain your vehicle. These procedures should not be attempted by “do-it-yourselfers,” and you
should not assume this bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle has the condition described. To determine whether this information
applies, contact an authorized Honda automobile dealer.
