Toyota Announces Volunt ary Recall of Certain Tacoma Pickup Trucks for Rear Leaf Springs
Toyota Mot or Sa les, U.S.A., Inc., has advi sed t he Na t iona l High w ay Tra ffi c Safet y Administration
(NHTSA) of plans to conduct a vo luntary saf et y reca ll of approximately 690,000 Model Year
2005-2011 Tacom a 4x4 and Tacoma Pre-Runner pick up t rucks.
Th e involved ve hi cles' rear su spension syst em co ntai ns leaf springs that are con st ructed of
eit her t hree or four leaves. Th ere is a po ssibility t hat a leaf cou ld fra cture due t o st re ss and
corrosion. If thi s occ urs and th e vehicl e conti nues to be op erat ed, the brok en leaf cou ld move
out of positi on an d contact surroun ding co mponents, inclu din g th e fu el t ank. If th e bro ken leaf
contacts the fuel t ank repeat edly, it cou ld pun ct ure th e t an k and cau se a fuel leak. In th e
pre se nce of an ignition source, thi s could res ult in a fire .
Toyota is not awa re of any fire s, crashes, injuri es or fatalities associated w ith t his cond it ion .
