Toyota Announces Voluntary Recall of Certain 2014 FJ Cruisers Toyota plans to conduct a vo luntary safety recall of approximate ly 1,800 Mode l Year 2014 FJ Cruiser vehicles . The involved vehicles are equipped with an optional "Trail Teams Ultimate Edition " package, which includ es specialized suspens ion components and Active Traction Control. In some of these vehicles, the t wo bolts att aching th e front lower ball joint to th e steerin g knuckle might have bee n t ightened with insufficient torque when the new front sho ck absorbe rs and springs were installed . In this co ndition, one or both bolts could become loose during driving and poten t ia lly fa ll out. If bot h bolts were t o fall out, the front lower ball joint co uld detach from the steering knuckle causing a loss of st ee rin g control. Owne rs of the vehicles in volved wi ll receive a notificatio n by first class mail st arting in late Septem ber 2014. Toyota dealers will in spect th e lower ball joint bolts and re lated suspen sion compone nts. If a bolt is found to be loose, it wi ll be tightened to the proper specification . If a bolt is missing, a new one wi ll be installed. The inspect ion and remedy procedure will be performed at No Cha rge to th e vehicle's owner. Toyota is not aware of any crashes, injuries or fata lities cause d by this condition .
