THIS SERVICE BULLETIN IS ALSO BEING RELEASED AS RAPID RESPONSE
TRANSMITTAL (RRT) 14-072. ALL APPLICABLE UN-SOLD RRT VIN's HAVE BEEN
LOADED. TO VERIFY THAT THIS RRT SERVICE ACTION IS APPLICABLE TO THE
VEHICLE, USE VIP OR PERFORM A VIN SEARCH IN TECHCONNECT. ALL REPAIRS
ARE REIMBURSABLE WITHIN THE PROVISIONS OF WARRANTY.
SUBJECT:
Heated Mirror Feature Inoperable
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing the correct HVAC control head, updating vehicle
configuration and installing an overlay harness as necessary.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with Power Folding/Heated Mirrors
(sales code GTR) built on or before December 6, 2013 (MOH 1206XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Customers may indicate that the heated mirror feature is inoperable. Vehicles built with
sales code GTR may not have been properly equipped with the components and/or vehicle
configuration necessary to operate the heated mirror feature. Vehicles involved in this
action fall into one of the following repair scenarios depending on how they were built:

HVAC control head replacement and vehicle configuration update
HVAC control head replacement, vehicle configuration update and overlay harness
installation
DIAGNOSIS:
If a customer's VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. For all other
customers that describe the symptom/condition, perform the Repair Procedure .

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Does the HVAC control head contain the heat/defrost button (See Figure 1 )?
a. If Yes>>> Proceed to Step 2.
b. If No>>> Proceed to Step 3.

Is the vehicle equipped with fog lamps, rear 12 volt power outlet, alarm system or
Daytime Running Lamps (sales codes LNJ, JKP, LSA or LMK)?
a. If Yes>>> Refer to Repair Scenario #1 listed below.
b. If No>>> Refer to Repair Scenario #2 listed below.
Is the vehicle equipped with fog lamps, rear 12 volt power outlet, alarm system or

Repair Scenario #1
1. Utilizing the wiTECH Diagnostic Application, navigate to Body Control Module (BCM)
and select the Misc. Functions tab. Select the Enable Heated Mirrors function then
perform the Proxi Alignment routine. This will manually update the vehicle
configuration to enable this feature.
2. Activate the heated mirrors using the heat/defrost button on the HVAC control head
and verify the mirror heaters are functioning properly.
Repair Scenario #2
1. Complete the Overlay Harness Installation Procedure listed below.
2. Utilizing the wiTECH Diagnostic Application, navigate to Body Control Module (BCM)
and select the Misc. Functions tab. Select the Enable Heated Mirrors function then
perform the Proxi Alignment routine. This will manually update the vehicle
configuration to enable this feature.
3. Activate the heated mirrors using the heat/defrost button on the HVAC control head
and verify the mirror heaters are functioning properly.

Repair Scenario #3
1. Replace the HVAC control head assembly using p/n 5NC24DX9AD. Follow the
detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To
Group 24 - Heating & A/C> Controls> Control, A/C and Heater> Removal &
Installation.
2. Utilizing the wiTECH Diagnostic Application, navigate to Body Control Module (BCM)
and select the Misc. Functions tab. Select the Enable Heated Mirrors function then
perform the Proxi Alignment routine. This will manually update the vehicle
configuration to enable this feature.
3. Activate the heated mirrors using the heat/defrost button on the HVAC control head
and verify the mirror heaters are functioning properly.
Repair Scenario #4
1. Complete the Overlay Harness Installation Procedure listed below.
2. Replace the HVAC control head assembly using p/n 5NC24DX9AD. Follow the
detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To
Group 24 - Heating & A/C> Controls> Control, A/C and Heater> Removal &
Installation.
3. Utilizing the wiTECH Diagnostic Application, navigate to Body Control Module (BCM)
and select the Misc. Functions tab. Select the Enable Heated Mirrors function then
perform the Proxi Alignment routine. This will manually update the vehicle
configuration to enable this feature.
4. Activate the heated mirrors using the heat/defrost button on the HVAC control head
and verify the mirror heaters are functioning properly.
Overlay Harness Installation Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the left head lamp assembly. Follow the detailed service procedures available
in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical> Lamps and
Lighting> Lamps/Lighting-Exterior> Unit, Front Lamp> Removal.
3. Remove the two screws securing the front Power Distribution Center (PDC) cover.
Remove the cover and the PDC from the mounting clips.
4. Turn the PDC over and disconnect the tan colored C1 connector (See Figure 2).

Cut the zip strap located at the base of the C1 and remove the connector cover (See
Figure 3).

Remove the screws securing the knee blocker below the steering column and remove
the knee blocker panel.
Remove the mounting screws from the Body Control Module (BCM) and place to the
side to gain access to the bulkhead.
Locate the head lamp/dash harness grommet where it passes through the bulkhead
(See Figure 4 & 5). Remove the tape from both sides of the grommet.

Locate the overlay harness (p/n 68249172AA) and find the end that contains all three
circuits (See Figure 6):

10. Locate a straight piece of mechanic's wire approximately 1-2 feet in length. This wire
will be used as a fish tape/line to pull the overlay through the grommet. Tape the end
of the overlay harness referenced in Step 9 to one end of the wire. Push the other end
of the wire through the grommet as close to the harness opening as possible (See
Figure 7).

11. Pull the wire and overlay harness through the grommet until enough length is exposed
to properly route it along the head lamp/dash harness down to the PDC (See Figure
8).

12. Insert the YL/BK circuit terminal into cavity 23 of connector C1. Next, insert the
untagged RD/GN circuit terminal into cavity 5. Finally, insert the tagged RD/GN circuit
terminal into cavity 4 (See Figure 9, 10 & 11 ).

13. Reinstall the connector cover and install a new zip strap to the base.
14. Reinstall connector C1 into the PDC and reinstall the PDC assembly and cover.
15. Install electrical tape along the overlay to secure it in place and place a new piece of
tape on both sides of the grommet openings (See Figure 12)

16. Reinstall the BCM into its mounting location.

17. Inside the vehicle, route the leg of the overlay harness containing the YL/BK circuit
towards the front of the BCM (See Figure 13).

18. Locate and remove BCM connector C4 which is located on the front of the module
(See Figure 14).

19. Cut the zip strap located at the base of the C4 and remove the connector cover.
20. Insert the YL/BK circuit terminal into cavity 19 of connector C4 (See Figure 15 & 16).

21. Reinstall the connector cover and install a new zip strap to the base.
22. Reinstall connector C4 into the BCM.

23. Route the remaining portion of the overlay harness around the pedal assembly bracket
and secure to the existing harness using electrical tape (See Figure 17).

24. Remove the screws securing the cup holder cover assembly and remove the cover.
25. Remove the screws securing the lower dash toe-kick cover located on the passenger
side of the vehicle. Remove the toe-kick cover (See Figure 18).

26. Route the overlay harness through the area shown in Figure 19.

27. Locate in-line connector 1008A found just behind the cover removed in Step 25 (See
Figure 19).
28. Disconnect the in-line connector. 1008A is the right side of the in-line.
29. Open the orange connector lock (See Figure 20).

30. Insert the untagged RD/GN circuit terminal into cavity 2. Next, insert the tagged
RD/GN into cavity 1 (See Figure 21 ).

Close the orange connector lock and reconnect inline 1008A.
Reinstall the toe-kick cover.
Reinstall the cup holder cover.
Reinstall knee blocker panel.
Reinstall left head lamp assembly. Follow the detailed service procedures available in
DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical> Lamps and
Lighting> Lamps/Lighting-Exterior> Unit, Front Lamp> Installation.
36. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
