HELP USING THE wiTECH DIAGNOSTIC APPLICATION FOR FLASHING AN ECU IS
AVAILABLE BY SELECTING "HELP" THEN "HELP CONTENTS" AT THE TOP OF
THE wiTECH DIAGNOSTIC APPLICATION WINDOW.
THE wiTECH SOFTWARE LEVEL MUST BE AT RELEASE 13.04 OR HIGHER TO
PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE.
SUBJECT:
Flash: MIL Illumination P1 CEA- Boost Side Evap Purge System Performance
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control
Module (PCM) with new software.

Fiat 500/Abarth (Hatchback only)
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 1.4L engine (sales code
EAF) built on or before February 14, 2013 (MOH 0214XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
A small number of customers may experience a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
illumination. Upon further investigation the Technician may find that the following
Diagnostic Trouble Code has been set:

P1 CEA- Boost Side Evap Purge System Performance
Updating the PCM software will correct the condition listed above.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH w/Smart Cable 410) and appropriate Diagnostic Procedures
available in TechCONNECT, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If
DTC's are present other than the one listed above, record them on the repair order and
repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.
If the customer describes the symptom/condition or if the technician finds the OTC,
perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
NOTE: Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2
volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the
flash process.
NOTE: If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

Reprogram the PCM with the latest software. Follow the detailed service procedures
available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical>
Electronic Control Modules - Service Information > Module - Powertrain Control >
Standard Procedures> PCM/ECM Programming.
Perform Cruise Control Learn Procedure.
a. Turn Ignition Key to the OFF/LOCK position for 10 seconds to allow the module to
power down.
b. Turn Ignition Key to the ON/RUN position.
c. Press, then release the Cruise ON/OFF button on the steering wheel.
d. Start Engine.
e. Press the Cruise ON/OFF button to verify that the Cruise indicator illuminates on the
cluster.
Is vehicle equipped with a manual transmission?
a. Yes >>> OTC P1302 - Transmission Self Learning will be present. Depress clutch
pedal fully to allow OTC to store, proceed to Step 4.
b. No>>> OTC P1302 - Transmission Self Learning will be stored, proceed to Step 4 .
Perform TLC Relearn Procedure.
a. Select PCM from Vehicle View.
b. Select the Misc. Functions Tab.
c. Set parking brake and start the engine.
d. Select the "Clear Mis-fire TLC" function and verify the Misfire TLC has been cleared_.
e. Select the Monitors drop down list (top of wiTECH) and select "OBDll Monitors".
f. Select the "Mis-fire Mon SWC" screen .
g. While watching the "Mis-fire Mon SWC" screen, allow the engine to warm up until
coolant temp has reached 140°F (60°C).
h. Once coolant temp reaches 140°F (60°C), perform a 6000 RPM wide open throttle
stab and let RPM return to idle.
i. Verify that the Mis-fire Monitor Status on the "Mis-fire Mon SWC" screen has
changed from "Waiting" to "In Progress" . If 6000 RPM was not achieved, then
perform Step H again.

After PCM reprogramming, the following must be performed: clear any DTC's that
may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application
will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.
Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label" and attach it
near the VECI label.
