SUBJECT:
Rear Window Washer Nozzle Drips And/Or Leaks While Driving
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing a check valve and hose assembly behind the rear window
washer nozzle .
MODELS:
2012 - 2013
FF
500
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or before April 15, 2013 (MOH
0415XX) equipped with Rear Window Wiper/Washer sales codes (JHB).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Rear window washer nozzle leaks and/or drips while driving .
DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer describes the symptom , perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Open the liftgate to gain access to the upper trim panel (1) and center high mounted
stop lamp (CHMSL) (Fig . 1).

Remove the plastic fastener covers (1) from the upper trim panel (Fig . 2).
Remove the upper trim panel fasteners (2) , then lower the upper trim panel (Fig. 2).

4. Disconnect the CHMSL electrical connector (1) from the CHMSL (2) then remove the
upper trim panel from the vehicle (Fig . 3).
5. Disconnect the rear window washer fluid hose (3) from the washer spray nozzle (4)
(Fig . 3).

CAUTION: If lubricant must be used for the check valve installation, washer fluid is
preferred. Any petroleum based lubricant is NOT allowed and will result
in the hose joint failing over time.
6. Connect the barbed end of the check valve assembly (1) to the window washer fluid
hose (2) then check for full hose engagement on the check valve( Fig . 4 ).

7. Carefully position the check valve assembly (1) into the rear hatch without kinking the
washer fluid hose , then connect the hose end of the check valve assembly (1) to the
window washer nozzle (2) (Fig . 5).

-58. Connect the CHMSL electrical connector (1) to the CHMSL (2) (Fig . 6).

9. Install the upper trim panel fasteners (1) and tighten securely (Fig. 7).
10. Install the plastic fastener covers (2) to the upper trim panel (Fig . 7).

11. Close the liftgate then actuate the rear window washer to verify proper operation of the
washer and that the installation of the check valve has resulted in no drips or leaks
after washer actuation .
