Condition
MIL on. One or several of the following DTCs for the cam actuators are stored in ECM memory:
P11A2 cam actuator "A" cylinder 1: implausible signal
P11A4 cam actuator "B" cylinder 1: implausible signal
P11A6 cam actuator "A" cylinder 2 implausible signal
P11A8 cam actuator "B" cylinder 2: implausible signal
P11AA cam actuator "A" cylinder 3: implausible signal
P11AC cam actuator "B" cylinder 3: implausible signal
P11AE cam actuator "A" cylinder 4: implausible signal
P11B0 cam actuator "B" cylinder 4: implausible signal
P11B2 cam actuator "A" cylinder 5: implausible signal
P11B4 cam actuator "B" cylinder 5: implausible signal
P11B6 cam actuator "A" cylinder 6: implausible signal
P11B8 cam actuator "B" cylinder 6: implausible signal
Technical Background
After the activation of the cam actuator to change to the other cam profile, the pin of the
actuator is pushed back in by the cam. This is confirmed by a voltage impulse, which is
registered by the engine control unit and confirms the operation. If this does not happen, or not
at the right time, a DTC "implausible signal" is saved in ECM memory.
Check the distance of the pin tip of the cam actuator for valve lift system to the camshaft when
it is not operated with a gauge. The measurement of the tip to the basic camshaft circle outside
of the groove must be taken, see Figures 1-3 below.

If this measurement is 0.9mm, the
actuator 06E103697J must be installed.
Note:
The actuator 06E103697J must only be
used, if the measurement is 0.9mm or
bigger.
