Technical Service Bulletin SUBJECT: NUMBER BRAKES DATE APRIL 2014 14-BR-001 MODEL(S) GENESIS SEDAN (BH) EQUUS (VI) GENESIS SEDAN (BH), EQUUS (VI) 4-PISTON CALIPER SERVICE BRAKE BLEEDING PROCEDURES Description: This bulletin describes the procedure to properly bleed the service brake system of a vehicle equipped with 4-piston fixed front calipers with dual bleeder valves. Applicable Vehicles: Genesis sedan (BH) and Equus (VI) vehicles equipped with 4-piston front brake calipers Parts Information: PART NAME DOT 4 Brake Fluid PICTURE PART NUMBER 00232-19053 REMARKS DOT 4 is preferred to DOT 3 fluid. Warranty Information: BRAKE FLUID-ADJUSTMENT (AIR BLEEDING) Circulate To: General Manager, Service Manager, Parts Manager, Warranty Manager, Service Advisors , Technicians, Body Shop Manager, Fleet Repair SUBJECT: BH GENESIS SEDAN AND VI EQUUS 4-PISTON CALIPER SERVICE BRAKE BLEEDING PROCEDURES Service Procedure: Service Brake Line Air Bleeding 1. Locate the brake master cylinder, remove the cap, and fill the reservoir to the MAX line with brake fluid. Reinstall the master cylinder cap. *NOTE If any brake fluid is spilled, immediately clean the spill by generously flushing water over the area. 2. Lift the vehicle on a hoist and remove the hub covers from all four wheels. Remove all lug nuts and wheels. *NOTE Tightening torque: 90-110 N.m (9-11 kgf.m, 65-80 lb-ft) 3. Start at the RIGHT REAR brake assembly. Connect one end of a bleeding line to the bleeder screw nipple, and then place the other end in a container to collect brake fluid as it is released. TSB #: 14-BR-001 Page 2 of 4 I I • SUBJECT: BH GENESIS SEDAN AND VI EQUUS 4-PISTON CALIPER SERVICE BRAKE BLEEDING PROCEDURES 4. Pump the brake pedal 3 times and then hold the pedal down to pressurize the system. While holding the brake pedal down, open the bleeder to release brake fluid. After fluid is released, close the bleeder, and release pressure from the brake pedal. *IMPORTANT DO NOT release the brake pedal until after the bleeder screw is fully closed . *NOTE Bleeder screw tightening torque: 6.9-12.7 Nm (0.7-1.3 kgf.m, 5.1-9.4 lb-ft) 5. Repeat step 4 until no air bubbles appear in the fluid. *NOTE DO NOT allow the fluid level to drop below the MIN line. If the level drops below MIN at any time during this procedure, it is required to start the bleeding process over, starting from the RIGHT REAR brake assembly. 6. Refill the reservoir to the MAX line with brake fluid. TSB #: 14-BR-001 Page 3 of 4 i . SUBJECT: 7. BH GENESIS SEDAN AND VI EQUUS 4-PISTON CALIPER SERVICE BRAKE BLEEDING PROCEDURES Move to the FRONT LEFT wheel. Repeat the process described in steps 3-6. *NOTE Vehicles equipped with 4-piston fixedtype front calipers have 2 bleeder screws (one inside, one outside). For these models, bleed the outside first (until no air bubbles appear in the fluid) then move to the inside bleeder (until no air bubbles appear in the fluid). 8. Repeat steps 3-6 at the REAR LEFT wheel, then the FRONT RIGHT wheel. 9. Reinstall all 4 wheels, remove the vehicle from the lift, and verify proper brake operation to complete the service brake line air bleeding procedure. TSB #: 14-BR-001 Page 4 of 4
