Technical Background
In order for the vehicle to receive a proper rear lid status signal when the lid is operated, the paddle switches on
the rear sill trim must contact the opposing lid latch points uniformly.
• Paddle switch G526 (Figure 1, 2) must
contact lid latch point 1 (Figure 1, 1), as
shown in the image at right.
• Paddle switch G525 (Figure 1, 4) must
contact lid latch point 3 (Figure 1, 3), as
shown in the image at right.
Figure 1. Inside vehicle view of rear lid latch showing location
of G526 (2) and G525 (4) on rear sill trim, and contact points (1
and 3).
When the rear lid is opened, the paddle switches change state and the comfort system central control module 2,
J773, will read G525 and G526. It will then communicate to the comfort system central control module, J393.
Production Solution
Optimized rear lid switch spacing on rear sill trim plate.

Service
1. Remove the rear trim plate by first removing
the four T25 Torx® screws (Figure 2), then
carefully pulling up on the plate.
Figure 2. Rear cargo area trim plate removal. The T25 Torx®
screws to be removed are circled in red.
Warning:
Vehicles with metal trim may have sharp edges.
2. Remove the two T20 Torx® screws that hold
down the paddle switch assembly. Install
spacers (4L0863191A 4PK) (Figure 3)
between the paddle switch and the trim. The
large diameter faces the switch and small
diameter faces the mounting.
Tip: If factory service parts are not
available, improvise by using spacers with
dimensions of no less than 5.5mm I.D., no
greater than 13mm O.D., and no thicker than
5.6mm.

3. Reinstall rear trim plate and clear DTC(s). Confirm that the concern is corrected and return vehicle to customer.
4. If concern is still present, remove the rear trim
to adjust the striker plate.
Note the current position of the striker plate
by using the serrated lines surrounding the
bolt or surrounding the nut’s integrated
washer (Figure 4 and Figure 5).
Tip: Use a permanent marker to mark
original position in case striker adjustment is
needed.

5. Center the striker plate latch to the lid latch.
Adjust until the lid is able to close smoothly
with proper switch actuation, resulting in the
proper lighting switchover.
Tip: Moving the striker plate latch
towards the front of the vehicle will bring the
lid latch closer to actuating the paddle
switches (Figure 6). Do not move the latch
forward too far to ensure that the lid is not
pulled in with greater force than necessary.

6. Clear DTC(s), confirm that the concern is corrected, then return the vehicle to the customer.
