Product Safety Recall 12180 – Involved Vehicle Population Expanded
Q1. This issue has been subject of a NHTSA preliminary evaluation and
engineering analysis. Was GM forced to expand this recall?
A1. We have had extensive discussions with the NHTSA and we are voluntarily
expanding the recall.
Q2. What vehicles are involved and where were they made?
A2. Subject to recall are certain 2006 model year Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC
Envoy XL; 2006-2007 model year Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier and
Saab 9-7X vehicles assembled in Oklahoma City and Moraine, Ohio. (Both plants have
since closed for reasons unrelated to this issue.)
Q3. Where besides the United States were these vehicles sold?
A3. Canada: 3,456 units and Mexico 4,876 units among approximately 30,000 exports.
Q4. Is my vehicle safe to drive?
A4. Yes.
Q5. How would I know if my vehicle had the issue being covered?
A5. All 2006 model year vehicles and all 2007 model year vehicles built before May 15,
2007 are covered. Only these vehicles used the specific switch identified in this issue. A
production change was made for the end of the 2007 model year and model years
thereafter.
Q6. Why are you announcing this before the bulletin is released or before the
parts become available?
A6. All customers who will receive safety recall letters earlier received special coverage
letters and had the opportunity to have their vehicles repaired free of charge.
Q7. When will I be able to get my vehicle repaired and how much will it cost me?
A7. Repairs can be scheduled any time and will be done for free.
Q8. I am not experiencing the condition or issue that is described, but I don't feel
safe driving the vehicle. What should I do?
A8. Parts are available at dealerships. You can call and make an appointment for an
inspection and, if necessary, a repair.
Q9. I've had my vehicle repaired. When can I be reimbursed?
A9. Customers who had their vehicles repaired can receive immediate reimbursement.
Q10. Can this issue occur when I am not in the vehicle?
Q10. Yes, an unattended vehicle fire is possible, but such instances are rare.
