PRELIMINARY INFORMATION
Subject:
Exhaust Drone, Noise or Vibration in 6th Gear at 1700-1900 Engine RPM and Speed
Between 101-106 KM/H (63-66 MPH)
Models:
2009-2013 Chevrolet Suburban 2500
2009-2013 GMC Yukon XL 2500
Equipped with 6.0L Engine (RPOs L96, LY6)
This PI has been revised to add the 2013 model year and update the Labor Operation to the
Global Labor Code (GLC). Please discard PI0434A.
Condition/Concern
Some customers may comment on a drone, vibration or rattle-type noise coming from the exhaust system with
engine RPMs at 1700. The noise may sound like it is coming from the engine compartment/dash as well.
Recommendation/Instructions
An exhaust system dampener assembly, P/N 22778011, is available for service to correct this condition. Install the
applicable exhaust system dampener assembly on the affected vehicles. Use the following procedure and the part
numbers listed below.

Install the tuned dampener just after the catalytic converter.
1. Raise the vehicle. Suitably support the vehicle. Refer to the Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in SI.
2. Remove the nuts from the clamp and separate the two pieces.
3. Install the U-bolt to the exhaust pipe just after the catalytic converter.
4. Install the dampener to the bottom half of the clamp and loosely install the clamp nuts to the U-bolt.
5. Position the U-bolt and dampener assembly just after the catalytic converter.
Tighten
Tighten the clamp nuts to 40 Y (30 lb ft).
6. Lower the vehicle.
