File in Section: Service Bulletin Bulletin No.: Date: PIC4676B December, 2012 PRELIMINARY INFORMATION Subject: Battery Goes Dead Models: 2006 - 2011 Buick Lucerne 2006 - 2011 Cadillac DTS This PI was superseded to update model years and add warranty statement. Please discard PIC4676A. The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI. Condition/Concern Some customers may comment their battery goes dead when the vehicle is parked. Battery electrical drain/parasitic load testing may reveal an abnormally high current draw that is traced to the F12 BCM LOGIC fuse (2006-2007 vehicles), BCM Fuse 19 (2008 vehicles), and BCM fuse 32 (2009 - 2011 vehicles) located in the rear fuse block. The concern may be intermittent. Recommendation/Instructions 1. 1.One cause could be a short to ground on circuit 1732. With the interior lights off, measure resistance to ground using an ohm meter on the BCM inadvertent power circuit. Note: : It may be necessary to manipulate the body harness while testing to reveal intermittent concerns. There should be no conductive path to ground (OL) on circuit 1732 with the interior lights off. If a conductive path to ground is detected, the short must be located. Likely locations for circuit 1732 to become shorted are: – A. Under the passenger floor sill plate near the passenger front seat. S372 (06 - 07 model years) or J372 (08 11 model years) located behind the rear seat back. The insulating tape may be out of position allowing for contact between the splice and ground shielding that is also in the wire harness. – B. Near the sunshades above the headliner. 2. Another cause could be the Glove Box Light staying on intermittently. Inspect the Glove Box switch for proper depression. Temperature differences and customer loading may cause excessive clearance between the door and the switch. A piece of small plastic tubing added to the plunger, or a riser pad may be added to the door to reduce the excessive clearance. Warranty Information The correction for this concern may be one of several repairs described above. For vehicles repaired under warranty, please use the appropriate warranty labor operation based on the actual cause and repair. Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
