Special Service Message
NOTE: A Special Service Message is a formal communication issued by Land Rover and carries the
same importance of a Technical Service Bulletin. An SSM is a quick method of communicating "Need
To Know" information to the technical service community. SSM's may be issued in advance of a
technical bulletin or may be the only communication on a given topic. All information contained in Land
Rover technical communications are intended for use by trained, professional technicians with the
knowledge, tools, and equipment required to complete the procedure correctly and safely. It informs
the Technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or provides information that could
assist in correct vehicle and diagnostic service.

Symptom : 404000 Fuel System Concerns
Content : Issue : Fuel gauge and fuel pump diagnosis using SDD
Cause: Various fuel pump and gauge issues / DTC
Action - This Special Service Message has been released to
advise that improved diagnostic information and pin point
tests have been released on SDD, for 10MY vehicles
onwards.
It is not possible to list all of the improvements in this Special
Service Message. Improved diagnostic areas include:
Fuel level sensor tests
Fuel gauge tests
Fuel pump tests
The changes have been released over several SDD
releases, beginning at DVD 127.
Please make sure the latest SDD DVD and patches are
loaded to take advantage of this new diagnostic information.
