PRELIMINARY INFORMATION
Subject:
Rain Sense Wipers Operate In Delay Mode
Models:
2006 - 2011 Buick Lucerne
2006 - 2011 Cadillac DTS
This PI was superseded to update model years. Please discard PIC5376.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern
A customer may comment that the rainsense wipers are not working correctly or are inoperative.
Recommendation/Instructions
While testing the system, the following conditions may be identified:
The wipers will swipe when water is placed on the windshield in the area of the sensor, they may also swipe as if the
vehicle does not have rainsense - (performing similar to a traditional pulse delay wiper system).
While reviewing BCM data on the scan tool for the Wipers, the "Rain Sense Signal" may read "No Glass".
The Technician should check to see if the windshield has been replaced with non-OEM glass. If it is found that the
windshield is not OEM, it should be replaced with a windshield from GM.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is
resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
