File in Section: Bulletin No.: Service Bulletin Date: PIT5180 September, 2012 PRELIMINARY INFORMATION Subject: Whistle Noise From Drivers Side A Pillar Area (Inspect VIN Plate Rivets) Models: 2008-2013 Cadillac Escalade Models 2008-2013 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe 2008-2013 GMC Sierra, Yukon Models The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI. Condition/Concern: Some owners may comment of a whistle noise coming from the driver’s side "A" pillar area when driving around 50 mph with the HVAC in recirculation mode. This whistle noise may be coming from one of the rivets securing the VIN plate to the cowl (see picture below). It may be hard to pin point the source of the noise, but the use of a stethoscope or the Ultrasonic Leak Detector (J-41416) may be helpful. 2910666 Recommendation/Instructions: Reseal the rivet(s) using RTV sealer from the underside. The underside of the rivet can be accessed through the cowl. Warranty Information: For vehicles repaired under warranty use: Labor Operation Description Labor Time C0010 Plenum Panel Resealing Use Published Labor Operation Time Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
