NOTE: These recommendations are also found in the vehicle Owner’s Manual. Always use the correct engine oil for the prevailing conditions. 1/2 Use of an engine block heater (if so equipped) when the ambient temperature is around -17.77°C (0°F) or lower. Engine block heaters are used to assist with cold temperature starting. Some heaters will operate continuously when plugged into the correct voltage electrical socket. Operate them only when the ambient temperature is below 17.77°C (0°F). Always use the correct type of diesel fuel. When two types of diesel fuel are available, use winter fuel when the ambient temperature is around or below 0°C (32°F). Importance of maintaining battery state-of-charge. If the battery is not fully charged during extremely cold weather conditions, the battery fluid may freeze and damage the battery. To maintain maximum efficiency, the battery should be checked regularly. For additional information, refer to “Battery” in the “Do-it-yourself” section of the applicable vehicle Owner’s Manual. Care should be taken to avoid situations that can lead to potential battery discharge and potential no-start conditions such as: 1. Installation or extended use of electronic accessories that consume battery power when the engine is not running (Phone changers, GPS, DVD players, etc.). 2. Infrequent operation of the vehicle or regularly driving only short distances in the vehicle. In these cases, the battery may need to be charged to maintain battery health. 2/2 NTB16-036
