GROUP NUMBER CAMPAIGN Technical Service Bulletin SUBJECT: DATE APRIL 2016 16-01-017 MODEL(S) ELANTRA (AD) BATTERY TERMINAL AND MOUNTING BRACKET INSPECTION (SERVICE CAMPAIGN TAA) IMPORTANT *** Dealer Stock and Retail Vehicles *** Dealers must perform this Service Campaign on all affected vehicles prior to customer retail delivery and whenever an affected vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair. When a vehicle arrives at the Service Department, access Hyundai Motor America's "Warranty Vehicle Information" screen via WEBDCS to identify open Campaigns. Description: The battery mounting bracket was recently replaced on some 2017MY Elantra vehicles at a port facility. The battery terminals and battery mounting bracket bolts might not have been properly secured during replacement. This bulletin provides the procedure to verify the battery terminal and battery mounting bracket torque. Applicable Vehicles: Certain 2017 ELANTRA (AD) Warranty Information: Op. Code ADBATTR0 Operation Battery Terminal and Bracket Inspection and Tightening Op. Time 0.3 M/H NOTE 1: Submit Claim on Campaign Claim Entry Screen. NOTE 2: If a part is found in need of replacement while performing Service Campaign TAA and the affected part is still under warranty, submit a separate warranty claim using the same Repair Order. Circulate To: General Manager, Service Manager, Parts Manager, Warranty Manager, Service Advisors, Technicians, Body Shop Manager, Fleet Repair SUBJECT: BATTERY TERMINAL AND MOUNTING BRACKET INSPECTION (SERVICE CAMPAIGN TAA) Service Procedure: 1. Open the hood. 2. Verify both battery terminal clamps (A) and (B) are fully seated and securely fastened. Use a 10 mm socket or wrench to verify the clamp torque on each terminal. Tightening torque: 5.8 ~ 7.2 lb-ft (7.8 ~ 9.8 Nm) 3. A B Inspect that the battery is firmly seated in the battery tray. Inspect mounting bracket is installed properly. C Verify the battery mounting bracket nut (C) and bolt (D) are properly tightened by using an appropriate wrench or socket. Tightening torque: 14.5 ~ 30.4 lb-ft (19.6 ~ 29.4 Nm) D 4.
