Bulletin No.: PIP4186B Date: May-2016 Subject: Engine Oil Leak at Side of Oil Pan Models: 2006-2008 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo, Malibu, Uplander 2006-2008 Pontiac G6, Montana SV6 2006-2007 Buick Terraza 2006-2008 Saturn Aura, Relay Equipped with 3.5L (LZ4/LZE) or 3.9L (LZ9, LZ8, LZG, LGD) engines This PI was superseded to update Recommendations/Instructions. Please discard PIP4186A. The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI. Condition/Concern Some owners may comment about an engine oil leak. Upon inspection you may find that the oil leak appears to be coming from one of the bolts that secure the side of the oil pan to the crankshaft main bearing caps inside the pan. Recommendation/Instructions Remove the bolt in question and replace it with a new bolt. When installing this new bolt apply GM pipe sealant to the threads of the bolt. Also, verify that the machined surface around the bolt hole in the oil pan is clean and that there are no imperfections. Torque the replacement bolt(s) to 50 N.m (37 lb ft) plus an additional 50 degrees of rotation. Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information. WE SUPPORT VOLUNTARY TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION 1
