GROUP NUMBER CAMPAIGN Technical Service Bulletin SUBJECT: DATE APRIL 2016 16-01-016 MODEL(S) GENESIS SEDAN (BH) EQUUS (VI) WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR COVER REPLACEMENT (RECALL CAMPAIGN 140) IMPORTANT *** Retail Vehicles Only *** Dealers must perform this recall when an affected vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair. When a vehicle arrives at the service department, access Hyundai Motor America’s “Warranty Vehicle Information” screen via WEBDCS to identify open Campaigns. Description: The subject vehicles are equipped with a windshield wiper motor which may have been manufactured with a cover seal that could degrade over time, eventually causing corrosion on the wiper motor’s printed circuit board. If the corrosion progresses, the windshield wiper motor could either function intermittently or stop functioning. If the windshield wipers become inoperative during inclement weather, driver visibility could be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash. Wiper motor cover 98170-3M000QQH Warranty Information: OP CODE 61C015R0 OPERATION WIPER MOTOR COVER KIT REPLACEMENT OP TIME 0.5 M/H NOTE 1: Submit Claim on Campaign Claim Entry Screen NOTE 2: If a part is found in need of replacement while performing Recall 140 and the affected part is still under warranty, submit a separate claim using the same Repair Order. If the affected part is out of warranty submit a Prior Approval Request for goodwill consideration prior to performing the work. TSB #: 16-01-016 Page 2 of 10 SUBJECT: WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR COVER REPLACEMENT (RECALL CAMPAIGN 140) Service Procedure: 1. Pull hood release to open the hood. 2. On the Equus remove the side covers (A). As shown in the photo. Equus A To remove the side covers, use a Flathead screwdriver to press on the center tab and remove the fixing clip. A Equus For the screw type fixing clip, use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the plastic screw and then remove the clip. TSB #: 16-01-016 Page 3 of 10 SUBJECT: WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR COVER REPLACEMENT (RECALL CAMPAIGN 140) 2A. On the Genesis remove the side cover (AA). Genesis Use a 10mm socket to remove the nut and then remove the side cover. AA Genesis 3. Place a piece of tape on the windshield in parallel to each wiper blade to mark the position of the wiper arms. TSB #: 16-01-016 Page 4 of 10 SUBJECT: 4. WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR COVER REPLACEMENT (RECALL CAMPAIGN 140) Remove the rubber caps (B), the fixing nuts (C), then the wiper arms (D). Wiper arm fixing nut tightening torque: 27.4 ~ 31.3 Nm (2.8 ~3.2 kgf.m, 20.2 ~ 23.1 lb-ft) B B Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the rubber caps and a 14mm socket to remove the wiper arm fixing nuts. C Remove the wiper arms. D TSB #: 16-01-016 Page 5 of 10 SUBJECT: 5. WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR COVER REPLACEMENT (RECALL CAMPAIGN 140) Disconnect the washer fluid hose (E). Equus E Genesis E 6. Remove the fixing clips (F) and then remove the cowl top cover (G). F To remove the fixing clips use a Flathead screwdriver to press on the center tab and remove the clip. G TSB #: 16-01-016 Page 6 of 10 WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR COVER REPLACEMENT (RECALL CAMPAIGN 140) SUBJECT: 7. Press on the locking tab to disconnect the wiper motor connector (H). Remove the connector. H 8. Wear the anti-static wristband (I) and gloves (J). J ! CAUTION You MUST USE the provided antistatic electricity wristband and gloves before handling the new wiper motor control unit. Static electricity can damage the control unit if anti-static wristband and gloves are not used. 9. I Connect the ground clip (I) to a chassis ground (K) as shown in the picture. I A good chassis ground is any part of the vehicle that is metal and is unpainted. K TSB #: 16-01-016 Page 7 of 10 SUBJECT: WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR COVER REPLACEMENT (RECALL CAMPAIGN 140) 10. Clean the area near the wiper motor using an air gun (L). L 11. Use a T20 Torx screwdriver and remove the four Torx head screws (M) from the wiper motor cover. M 12. Carefully remove the motor cover and seal (N). N TSB #: 16-01-016 Page 8 of 10 SUBJECT: WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR COVER REPLACEMENT (RECALL CAMPAIGN 140) 13. Place the new seal (O) on the motor. O 14. Install the new cover (P) and the four new Torx head screws (Q). Tightening torque: 1.9 ~ 2.9 Nm (0.2 ~0.3 kgf.m, 1.4 ~ 2.1 lbft) P TSB #: 16-01-016 Page 9 of 10 SUBJECT: WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR COVER REPLACEMENT (RECALL CAMPAIGN 140) Q 15. Install all removed parts in reverse order of removal. NOTICE When reinstalling the wiper arm, align the wiper arm in parallel to the marked tape position. 16.
