GROUP BODY Technical Service Bulletin SUBJECT: DATE AUGUST 2016 NUMBER 16-BD-003 MODEL(S) Elantra GT (GD) ELANTRA GT (GD) REAR SPOILER REPLACEMENT Description: This bulletin describes the installation procedure and installation locations of the adhesive tape and foam provided with the Elantra GT (GD) Rear Spoiler replacement part kit. Applicable Vehicles: 2013 – 2016MY Elantra GT (GD) vehicles. Parts Information: Part Name SPOILER – RR Part Number 87211 – A5100 Qty. 1 Warranty Information: Normal warranty applies. Circulate To: General Manager, Service Manager, Parts Manager, Warranty Manager, Service Advisors, Technicians, Body Shop Manager, Fleet Repair ELANTRA GT (GD) REAR SPOILER REPLACEMENT SUBJECT: Service Procedure: 1. Confirm that the center portion of the new spoiler has a ½” (appx.) thick leading edge. Paint the new spoiler to match vehicle body. 2. (From shop manual) Use a screwdriver or trim removal tool to remove the tail gate upper trim (A). NOTICE When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape and apply protective tape around the related parts to prevent damage. CAUTION Wear gloves to protect your hands. 3. (From shop manual) Disconnect the high mounted stop lamp connector (B) and washer nozzle (A). Remove the hole plug (A). TSB #: 16-BD-003 Page 2 of 9 SUBJECT: SUBJECT: 4. ELANTRA GT (GD) REAR SPOILER REPLACEMENT (From shop manual) Loosen the (7) rear spoiler mounting nuts. Tightening torque: 5.9 ~ 6.4 N.m (0.6 ~ 0.65 kgf.m, 4.3 ~ 4.7 lb.ft) 5. (From shop manual) Remove the rear spoiler (A). 6. Remove (4) nuts to remove the high mounted stop lamp assembly from the spoiler. Save the lamp assembly and nuts for the new spoiler. 7. Clean any dirt and remaining adhesive residue from the tail gate body panel. Use 70% isopropyl alcohol or alcohol wipes to prep the adhesive mating surfaces. TSB #: 16-BD-003 Page 3 of 9 SUBJECT: ELANTRA GT (GD) REAR SPOILER REPLACEMENT SUBJECT: 8. Use 70% isopropyl alcohol or alcohol wipes to prepare the mating surfaces of the painted spoiler for the adhesive strips. NOTICE To maintain adhesive strength, avoid touching the adhesive side of the tape as much as possible. 9. Locate the longest piece of adhesive foam. Length: 54” (approx.) Peel about 2 inches of the brown paper from one side of the foam. Follow the raised guide to adhere the foam to the curved (trailing) edge of the spoiler. NOTICE To reduce chances of the foam sticking to itself, press one section of foam down before removing more brown paper. 10. Locate the (2) pairs of small adhesive foam rectangular strips. Length: 2” Separate the strips from each other and the brown paper. Adhere the (4) foam strips to the 4 raised sections of the spoiler in the locations shown. TSB #: 16-BD-003 Page 4 of 9 SUBJECT: SUBJECT: 11. ELANTRA GT (GD) REAR SPOILER REPLACEMENT Locate the (5) rubber plugs. Install them in the 5 locations shown. 12. Locate the (5) small, thin foam circles. Outer Diameter: 1” Inner Diameter: 3/8” Thickness: 1/32” Install them around the 5 screw studs shown. 13. Locate the (2) medium, thin foam circles. Outer Diameter: 1-3/8” Inner Diameter: ½” Install them around the 2 screw studs shown. TSB #: 16-BD-003 Page 5 of 9 SUBJECT: SUBJECT: 14. ELANTRA GT (GD) REAR SPOILER REPLACEMENT Locate the (2) large, thick foam circles. Outer Diameter: 1-½” Inner Diameter: ¾” Thickness: ¼” Install them around the 2 holes shown. 15. Locate the (2) pieces of large adhesive foam rectangular strips. Length: 3-¾” Separate the strips from each other and the brown paper. Follow the raised guide to adhere the (2) foam strips to the 2 side locations of the leading edge of the spoiler as shown. TSB #: 16-BD-003 Page 6 of 9 SUBJECT: ELANTRA GT (GD) REAR SPOILER REPLACEMENT SUBJECT: 16. Locate the long piece of double-sided adhesive. Length: 40” (approx.) Peel about 2 inches of the yellow paper from one side of the adhesive. Follow the raised guide to adhere the adhesive to the straight (leading) edge of the spoiler. NOTICE To reduce chances of the adhesive sticking to itself, press one section of adhesive down before removing more yellow paper. Keep the red paper on the adhesive strip. Press down firmly to ensure good adhesion. 17. Locate the short piece of double-sided adhesive. Length: 4” (approx.) Peel off the yellow paper and install it in the center of the spoiler just behind the long double-sided piece in the location shown. Keep the red paper on the adhesive strip. Press down firmly to ensure good adhesion. NOTICE Do NOT add any more double-sided adhesive, tape, or glue to the spoiler other than what is listed in this TSB. TSB #: 16-BD-003 Page 7 of 9 SUBJECT: SUBJECT: 18. ELANTRA GT (GD) REAR SPOILER REPLACEMENT Locate the washer nozzle hose and 2 screws. Feed the nozzle hose from the back of the spoiler and through the hole shown. Ensure that the nozzle is oriented so it will point down when the spoiler is installed on the vehicle. Use the screws provided in the kit to secure the nozzle. 19. Install the high mounted stop lamp assembly. Feed the connector and wires through the hole shown. Use the (4) nuts to secure the light assembly. 20. Confirm that the new spoiler assembly with all kit parts attached looks like this: TSB #: 16-BD-003 Page 8 of 9 SUBJECT: ELANTRA GT (GD) REAR SPOILER REPLACEMENT SUBJECT: 21. Confirm that any dirt and remaining adhesive residue is removed from the tail gate body panel. Peel off the red paper from the (2) doublesided adhesive strips on the new spoiler. NOTICE Do NOT add any more double-sided adhesive, tape, or glue to the spoiler other than what is listed in this TSB. 22. 23. Feed the high mounted stop lamp connector and washer hose through their respective holes in the tail gate panel. Washer hose Stop lamp connector Align the screw studs with their respective holes in the tail gate panel. Check that the gap between the leading edge of the spoiler and the roof panel is even along the length of the spoiler. Press firmly down on the leading edge of the spoiler to ensure good adhesion to the tail gate body. 24. Perform steps #2 – 4 in reverse order to complete the installation. Open and close the tail gate completely to confirm the repair. 25. Confirm proper operation of the rear window washer and the high mounted stop lamp. TSB #: 16-BD-003 Page 9 of 9 SUBJECT:
