T-SB-0086-16 July 28, 2016 Gas Cap "No Click" and/or "No Spring Return" Service Category Engine/Hybrid System Section Fuel System Market USA Applicability YEAR(S) MODEL(S) 2014 - 2016 Corolla ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Introduction Some 2014 – 2016 model year Corolla vehicles may exhibit a “No Click” and/or “No Spring Return” condition from the fuel cap when fully seated and sealed. In some instances, MIL ON may occur with DTC P0455, P0456 (Gross and Small Evaporate Leak). In some vehicles the fuel filler neck may be out of position leading to this condition. Follow the procedures in this bulletin to address this condition. Production Change Information This bulletin applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VIN shown below. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date. Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin. For California specification vehicles sold, registered, and operated in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington, this repair is covered under the CA Emission Warranty for 36 months or 50,000 miles from the vehicle's in-service date, whichever occurs first. © 2016 Toyota Motor Sales, USA Page 1 of 6 T-SB-0086-16 July 28, 2016 Page 2 of 6 Gas Cap "No Click" and/or "No Spring Return" Repair Procedure 1. Confirm the condition. A. Remove and reinstall the fuel cap. Does the cap exhibit a “No Click” condition? YES – Continue to step B. NO – This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual. B. Does the fuel filler neck exhibit contact with the fuel shield? (See Figure 1.) YES – Continue to step 2. NO – This bulletin does NOT apply. Remove the left rear wheel. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), applicable model and model year Repair Manual: 2014 – 2016 Corolla Suspension – Tire/Wheel – “Tire/Wheel: Tire and Wheel System: Inspection” 3. Remove the Fuel Tank Filler Pipe Protector. A. Remove the four 10mm screws. B. Pull outward to release the liner holder. Loosen the filler neck brackets. A. Loosen the upper 12mm bolt. B. Loosen the two 10mm bolts. Reposition filler neck so opening protrudes further outside of the body. A. Firmly Press Up from the bottom joint while pulling outward on the fuel neck opening. Figure 5. Bottom Joint Figure 6. Fuel Neck Opening 1 1 Pull out Press up B. While holding in the raised position tighten the lower 10mm bolt. C. Verify filler neck is now protruding from body panel and fuel cap is not making contact with the fuel shield. Figure 7. OK Condition 1 No contact with fuel shield 7. Reinstall inner fender liner. 8. Reinstall left rear wheel. Refer to TIS, applicable model and model year Repair Manual: 2014 – 2016 Corolla Suspension – Tire/Wheel – “Tire/Wheel: Tire and Wheel System: Inspection” HINT Wheel Torque – 76ft. lbs. (102.9Nm) 9. Confirm proper vehicle operation. A. Confirm fuel cap “Click” and/or “Spring Return”. B.
