REVISION SUMMARY
Under WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION, warranty information was added for alignment.
BACKGROUND
There is a judder from the torque converter lock-up clutch felt while driving between 20–45 mph. To minimize the
possibility for the judder to occur, a software update for the transmission is available. Additionally, the transmission fluid
will be replaced.
To increase customer confidence, American Honda is extending the warranty on the torque converter in affected
vehicles to 8 years from the original date of purchase or 105,000 miles, whichever comes first.
The warranty extension does not apply to any vehicle that has ever been declared a total loss or sold for salvage by a
financial institution or insurer, or has a branded or similar title under any state’s law.
There are two bulletins applicable to this issue:
•
•
16-046, Product Update: 2011–12 Odyssey Software Update for Lock-up Clutch Function – Update the software in
the vehicle.
16-052, Warranty Extension: 2011–12 Odyssey Torque Converter - Replace the torque converter.
Do 16-046 first to update the vehicle. If the judder returns after updating the vehicle, the torque converter may need to
be replaced; refer to the INSPECTION section of this bulletin.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
Owners of affected vehicles will be sent a notification of this campaign.
Do an iN VIN status inquiry to make sure the vehicle is shown as eligible.
Some vehicles affected by this campaign may be in your used vehicle inventory. Repair these vehicles before they are
sold.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Make sure 16-046 was done, then capture a snapshot of the symptom. If the snapshot indicates the torque converter
needs to be replaced, forward the snapshot to Tech Line, then replace the torque converter.
