Issue
This document describes an issue where the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will be
illuminated with no fault codes present in the engine control module (ECM).

The MIL will be illuminated with no fault codes present in the ECM.
The use of the “Reset Inactive Faults” command in INSITE™ electronic service tool does not
extinguish the MIL when it clears the fault codes from the ECM.
Do not use the “Reset Inactive Faults” command in INSITE™ on On-Board Diagnostics
products.

Resolution
If the MIL is illuminated with no fault codes present in the ECM, a fault code will need to be
created in order to use the “Reset All Faults” feature in INSITE™ electronic service tool.
Follow these instructions:







Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the wiring harness from the coolant temperature sensor.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Use INSITE™ electronic service tool to monitor fault codes to see Fault Code 144 go
active.
Reconnect the wiring harness to the coolant temperature sensor.
Use INSITE™ electronic service tool to monitor fault codes to see Fault Code 144 go
inactive
Use INSITE™ electronic service tool to perform the “Reset All Faults” function to clear
the inactive Fault Code 144 and to extinguish the MIL.
