R1234YF REFRIGERANT
SUBJECT:
This bulletin provides information relating to the new R1234yf refrigerant initially being released
with the 2017MY Sportage (QL), and applicable to future models.
Governmental standards to reduce the length of time
refrigerants can linger in the upper atmosphere have
resulted in an adoption of R1234yf, as a replacement
for R134a.
Global Warming Potential (GWP) is a value used to
compare different greenhouse gases that trap heat in
the atmosphere. R134a, with a GWP of 1,400, has an
atmospheric life of 13 years. R1234yf has a GWP of 4
and an atmospheric life of 11 days.
R1234yf Recovery, Recycling, Recharging Equipment
meeting SAE J2843 requirements are needed to
service vehicles containing R1234yf.
Features of the R1234yf refrigerant:
• The performance of R1234yf is very similar to
R134a and constitutes minimal changes to the
overall system components.
• Compatible with various refrigerant oils and dyes.
• Vehicle A/C systems have specialized service ports
to limit connectivity to non-R1234yf equipment,
eliminating cross-contamination.
• Refrigerant available in 10 lb. bottles.
