Housing Coolant Leak Test - Service Tool Leaks
Issue
Turbochargers are being returned due to failing the bearing housing leak test when using
Service Tool Kit, Part Number 2892101, as described in Procedure 010-033 (Turbocharger) in
the service manual. It was found that the actual leak was caused by the service tool. The
block off fittings do not provide enough shoulder for the inner seal of the banjo washer to seal
properly, allowing air to leak down past the bolt and mating component threads. See Figure 1.

Verification
Complete the leak test in Procedure 010-033 (Turbocharger), following the additional
instructions provided below for the service tool.
Resolution
Pack the threads of the block off fittings with an all-purpose or bearing grease to seal off air
leaks caused by the service tool. After the test, wipe off the grease from mating components.
Use new sealing washers, since the grease may not be compatible with seals in the cooling
system.
