Oil Leaks at the Non-Hydraulic Drive Front Cover Page 1 of 3 Technical Service Bulletin Number TSB140136 Technical Service Bulletin Subject Oil Leaks at the Non-Hydraulic Drive Front Cover Issue Oil leaks are being detected on the gear housing and front cover of ISX 12 CM2250, ISX 12 CM2350 X102, and ISX12G engines by black light inspection. This leakage is attributed to the porosity in the cast aluminum gear housing wall that separates an oil galley from an adjacent bolt hole that retains the gear housing cover. See Figures A and B below. https://qsol2.cummins.com/qs3/pubsys2/xml/en/tsb/2014/tsb140136.html 11/3/2014 Oil Leaks at the Non-Hydraulic Drive Front Cover Page 2 of 3 Figure A https://qsol2.cummins.com/qs3/pubsys2/xml/en/tsb/2014/tsb140136.html 11/3/2014 Oil Leaks at the Non-Hydraulic Drive Front Cover Page 3 of 3 Figure B Verification The suspect housings were installed on engines starting 01-Sep-2013 to 15-Nov-2013. Engine serial number (ESN) range is 75021712 to 75025321. If the ESN or build date is within this range, use black light inspection to verify if oil is leaking in the lower front cover bolt holes. Resolution Thoroughly clean the area around the leaking bolt hole to remove all oil. Apply a wicking thread sealant as deep in the bolt hole as possible. Cummins® recommends Part Number 3823689 (50ml. bottle), Part Number 3824039 (10ml. bottle), or Loctite™ 290. These actions are taken for the sole purpose of sealing the bolt hole to prevent oil leakage, and are not required for retaining the bolt or making sure of proper engine operation.
