* * TECHNICAL INFORMATION NOTICE * * DATE: October 3, 2016 TO: Mitsubishi Motors US & Puerto Rico Dealer Service and Parts Managers RE: DTCs Set in Electric Parking Brake ECU TIN NO. TIN-16-36-001 AFFECTED VEHICLES: Certain 2017 Outlander Equipped with F.A.S.T. key and Electric Parking Brake PURPOSE During Port operations, the IOD (Ignition Off Draw) is pulled out (not inserted) and the engine switch (push-start button) is cycled from OFF to ACC to ON (brake pedal not depressed) and back to OFF, or cycled from OFF to ACC to ON (brake pedal depressed to start the engine) and back to OFF. Due to some programming in the Electric Parking Brake system, DTCs can be set under these conditions. No warning lights are illuminated and no other issues occur with these DTCs. B1762 (IOD fuse not seated fully) can be set as an Active DTC under ETACS U0141 (ETACS CAN timeout) or U0415 (ABS/ASC CAN Message) can be set as Stored DTCs under EPB (Electric Parking Brake). After the IOD (Ignition Off Draw) is fully inserted, B1762 (IOD fuse not seated fully) is no longer detected, but U0141 (ETACS CAN timeout) remains as a Stored DTC under EPB (Electric Parking Brake) and DTC U0415 (ABS/ASC CAN Message) could remain as a Stored DTC under EPB (Electric Parking Brake) as well. If DTC U0141 and/or U0415 are the only DTCs retrieved under the EPB (Electric Parking Brake) system during normal vehicle service at the dealership, DO NOT perform any unnecessary diagnostic repairs for these DTCs. Perform an “all DTC” check and erase with MUT-III SE to address this concern. If, however, the same DTCs return, then perform the necessary diagnostics per the Service Manual procedures. (4464)
