TURN BLIND SPOT WARNING
SYSTEM OFF WHEN TOWING —
2017 Outlander.
(BSW)
Dealers should inform customers that the Blind
Spot Warning system should be set to OFF when
towing a trailer, as instructed in the Owner's
Manual. Customers should also be informed
that turning off the BSW system also turns off the
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) at the same time.

After the IOD (Ignition Off Draw) is fully
inserted, B1762 (IOD fuse not seated fully) is no
longer detected, but U0141 (ETACS CAN
timeout) remains as a Stored DTC under EPB
(Electric Parking Brake) and DTC U0415
(ABS/ASC CAN Message) could remain as a
Stored DTC under EPB (Electric Parking Brake)
as well.
If DTC U0141 and/or U0415 are the only DTCs
retrieved under the EPB (Electric Parking Brake)
system during normal vehicle service at the
dealership, DO NOT perform any unnecessary
diagnostic repairs for these DTCs. Perform an
“all DTC” check and erase with MUT-III SE to
address this concern. If, however, the same DTCs
return, then perform the necessary diagnostics
per the Service Manual procedures.”
In addition to posting the photo, please report
the failure DTC(s) on the PRC report, and add a
comment describing whether or not the tire had
ever been dismounted prior to this service (e.g.,
YES - The tire was dismounted prior to this
service, or NO - the tire was never dismounted
prior to this service). If it is not apparent that the
tire was previously dismounted, the customer
should be able to provide that information.
MMNA will issue a Warranty Parts Return
Request for all replaced (Mirage) TPMS sensors
(which includes the valve stem and bulb in
addition to the sensor body).
Once returned, the TPMS sensors will be
combined with their respective PRC photos and
forwarded to the supplier for analysis. Please
continue posting the TPMS sensor photos to the
PRC until a cancellation notice is published by
MMNA headquarters. Upload PRC photos into
the category titled “TPMS Sensors in Wheel
Photos.”

TIN-16-36-001: DTCs SET IN ELECTRIC
PARKING BRAKE ECU — Certain 2017
Outlander with F.A.S.T. Key and Electric Parking
Brake. TIN-16-36-001 was recently sent to
dealers and states:
“During Port operations, the IOD (Ignition Off
Draw) is pulled out (not inserted) and the engine
switch (push-start button) is cycled from OFF to
ACC to ON (brake pedal not depressed) and
back to OFF, or cycled from OFF to ACC to ON
(brake pedal depressed to start the engine) and
back to OFF.
Due to some programming in the Electric
Parking Brake system, DTCs can be set under
these conditions.
No warning lights are
illuminated and no other issues occur with these
DTCs.
B1762 (IOD fuse not seated fully) can be set
as an Active DTC under ETACS
U0141 (ETACS CAN timeout) or U0415
(ABS/ASC CAN Message) can be set as
Stored DTCs under EPB (Electric Parking
Brake).

 DTC B223D OR B1558 FOUND IN SRS-ECU
MEMORY — 2012-17 i-MiEV, 2008-16 Lancer,
2009-16 Lancer Sportback, 2008-15 Lancer
Evolution, 2014-17 Mirage, 2017 Mirage G4,
2007-16 Outlander, 2011-16 Outlander Sport/RVR.
Rear
The subject DTCs are set when the Occupant
Classification Module (OCM) communicates a
fault to the SRS-ECU. If you find either B223D
or B1558 in SRS-ECU memory, the Service
Manual will tell you to check for OCM DTCs.
Front
As the code that identifies what you diagnosed
and repaired, record the OCM DTC in the “DTC”
field on the “Labor” page when submitting a
warranty claim. Knowing the root cause of a
fault, identified in this case by the OCM DTC,
helps MMNA and MMC with their
investigations, which helps them quickly
develop countermeasures when needed.
CLOCK SPRING NOISE — 2013-15 Outlander
Sport/RVR.

The investigation on clock spring noise when
turning the steering wheel as identified in Tech
Talk articles 211-52B-001 (August 2014) and
216-52B-001 (February 2015) has concluded. If
you encounter this condition, please refer to

AFTER-MARKET HEAD LAMPS / TAIL
LAMPS — 2013-15 Outlander Sport/RVR.
MMNA Warranty is experiencing an unusually
high return of after-market head lamps and tail
lamps. “Stanley Corporation” is inscribed on
original Mitsubishi (OEM) parts. The inscription
is located on the lower front lens of the head
lamp, and on the rear mounting surface of the tail
lamp.
Any other manufacturer markings
indicate an after-market part that cannot be
repaired
under
warranty.
Returned
after-market parts that were improperly claimed
will be debited to the dealer.

GROUP 00 − General: TINs Released on New MUT−III SE Scan Tool Software
NOTE: The following TINs were released to dealers to introduce the new MUT-III SE software and explain the
functionality of this new version at your dealership. The second TIN provides useful tips for technicians.
These TINs can also be found on MDL: service / service tech resources / TSBs & Recalls by Model / TSB List
(98-Present) / TSB List - 2016. (Technical Information Notices are listed at the bottom, Sort by TSB Number.)
TIN-16-00-002: MUT-III SE SCAN TOOL SOFTWARE — All models.
TIN-16-00-002 was emailed to all dealers on July 29, 2016 and states:
“Mitsubishi will launch our latest scan tool software version, MUT-III SE (Second Edition) on
August 1, 2016. SE provides many advantages over MUT-III - including automatic VIN reading and
faster processing speed - increasing your technician efficiency! SE is included on your MEDIC4
computer (Toughbook® or Toughpad®) on its own tab and used to diagnose certain past and present
as well as all future vehicle systems.
The majority of diagnosis will now be conducted using MUT-III SE with full software
implementation expected in the near future.
The RAIDER scan tool remains unchanged and accessed on its own tab in MEDIC4.
ECU Reprogramming continues to be performed with MUT-III for the foreseeable future.
Oscilloscope and multi-meter functions are still supported with MUT-III and the VCI.
4
Refer to the attached documents which illustrate unique circumstances where MUT-III will be used
instead of MUT-III SE. To provide your technicians ready access to this information in a format
suitable for the shop environment, laminated copies of the usage and PS charts have been mailed to
the dealership service manager.
MUT-III SE will assist your dealership in fulfilling our “Customer First” philosophy and enable your
technicians to fix customer vehicles right the first time and on time.”

TIN-16-00-003: MUT-III SE USEFUL HINTS, TIPS, AND PRECAUTIONS — All models.
TIN-16-00-003 was emailed to all dealers on September 9, 2016 and states:
“Mitsubishi launched the MUT-III SE (Second Edition) on August 1, 2016. This TIN will provide
some useful hints, tips, and precautions when using the various functions on the MUT-III SE.
Helpful Quick Start Tips:
1. Always return to the MUT-III SE home screen prior to working on the next vehicle in order to
prevent screen errors.
2. The MUT-III SE Owner's Manual is located on the MUT-III SE home screen (click on the lower
left button to open the manual). This same Manual is available on the Techline home screen “How
to” button.
Additional information on using MUT-III SE is available with these publications –
TIN-16-00-002 and Tech Talk volume 222 (released in July 2016).
7
3. ETACS identification in the Loading Option Setup box is required when working on the following
vehicle systems. Select “Can't see P/N” or “Can see P/N” before proceeding.

ETACs replacement and coding
TPMS registration
KEYLESS registration
LIN system diagnosis
4. Make sure you do NOT have MUT-III or Raider scan tool open at the same time MUT-III SE is
open. Fully exit MUT-III or Raider STV prior to starting MUT-III SE.
5. On 2012 Outlander Sport/RVR and other vehicles equipped with Remote Start that are
experiencing KOS programming issues: try unplugging the Mitsubishi Remote Start module and
then VIN write to the KOS ECU.“

GROUP 60 − Recalls
TIN-16-SR-003-C: CROSS MEMBER CORROSION SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN - “REMEDY
AVAILABLE” CUSTOMER LETTERS — Certain 2002 – 2007 Lancer, 2004 Lancer Sportback, 2003 – 2006
Lancer Evolution, 2003 – 2006 Outlander, and 2007 – 2013 V6 Outlander..
TIN-16-SR-003-C was recently sent to dealers and states:
“Customer letters for the Cross Member Corrosion Safety Recall Campaign are being mailed this
week to 2,500 owners, informing them that remedy parts are now available. To help MMNA better
understand potential parts demand, only 2,500 “remedy available” letters are being sent at this time.
If one of these customers contacts your dealership after receiving this letter, please perform the
procedures outlined in SR-16-003 on the affected vehicle.
Owners who were not mailed the “remedy available” letters but believe that their vehicle's cross
member exhibits excessive corrosion may still bring their vehicle into an Authorized Mitsubishi
Dealership for inspection. If a customer presents their vehicle for inspection, please follow the
inspection procedures outlined in SR-16-003.
If you encounter a vehicle which has excessive cross member corrosion, but is not covered under this
campaign (i.e., never registered in a salt belt state), contact your DPSM for further directions.
As a reminder, MMNA would like to better understand the severity of the cross member corrosion
on vehicles requiring cross member replacement. Therefore, all cross member replacement recall
9
claims must include photos of vehicle cross members inspected and found to exhibit perforation(s),
and those photos must be posted to the Photos Required Condition (PRC) system in the “cross
member” category. The photos must be of the cross member still installed on the vehicle, and must
clearly show the perforation or the results of the punch test (step 4 of the inspection procedure
outlined in Safety Recall Bulletin SR-16-003) indicating the need for replacement, along with other
areas of the cross member that exhibit corrosion.
Dealers must review the Warranty Superscreen to confirm if any vehicles in their new or used vehicle
inventories are affected, and conduct this campaign prior to delivering them. When checking for
applicability of this campaign (C1609R), please check for and complete any other open campaigns.
Always obtain the customer's approval before completing a campaign on a customer owned
vehicle.”
IMPORTANT
Affected new or used inventory vehicles must be repaired before the vehicle is delivered. Dealers must
check their inventory vehicles' VINs on the Warranty Superscreen to verify whether the vehicle is involved
in this recall campaign. It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to deliver a new motor vehicle or any
new or used item of motor vehicle equipment (including a tire) covered by the notification under a sale
or lease until the defect or noncompliance is remedied.
ATIN-16-SR-008-A: HID HEADLAMP HORIZONTAL ADJUSTMENT LOCKING CLIPS NOT
SECURED - SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN — 2017 Mirage (hatchback) with HID headlamps.
ATIN-16-SR-008-A was recently sent to dealers and states:
“A non-compliance recall campaign will be released today for certain 2017 Mirage (hatchback) with
HID headlamps built between October 28, 2015 and August 4, 2016. Do not deliver any affected 2017
Mirage (hatchback) vehicles with HID headlamps and built between October 28, 2015 and August
4, 2016 until this recall has been performed. The Recall Bulletin outlining the repair procedure will
be available today on MEDIC and MDL.
The High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps allow for horizontal adjustment during the vehicle
assembly process. After assembly, horizontal adjustment locking clips are secured so that no further
adjustments can be made. However, HID headlamps on certain 2017 Mirage vehicles were
inadvertently shipped without the horizontal adjustment locking clips being secured. This is a
non-compliance with FMVSS 108. Without the horizontal adjustment locking clip being secured, the
headlight can be adjusted to either reduce the driver's visibility or blind oncoming vehicles. Both
conditions can increase the risk of a crash.
Dealers are requested to inspect the HID headlamp adjustment locking clips to ensure that they have
been secured. Any locking clip(s) not secured must have photos taken and posted to Photos Required
Condition (PRC), and be corrected.
Notification letters will be sent to owners of affected vehicles, requesting they contact their local
Authorized Mitsubishi dealership to schedule an appointment to have this recall performed.
Affected new vehicle inventory VINs can be reviewed on the Mitsubishi Dealer Link in the Most
Recent: Open Campaign List available under the service section of “e-reports.” Dealers must review
the Warranty Superscreen to confirm if any vehicles in their new or used vehicle inventories are
affected, and conduct this campaign prior to delivering them. When checking for applicability of this
campaign (C1610M), please check for and complete any other open campaigns. Always obtain the
customer's approval before completing a campaign on a customer owned vehicle.”
