One or both of the following DTCs are stored in the engine control module, J623 (address word 01):
•
DTC P2440(00) (Secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open bank1)
•
DTC P2442(00) (Secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open bank2)
Technical Background
One of two scenarios can cause this condition:
•
Scenario A: One of the combi valves is defective.
•
Scenario B: The vacuum solenoid is defective.

Updated combi valves and vacuum solenoid.
Service
1. Before performing any repair, determine if Scenario A or Scenario B is causing the condition.
Scenario A is the cause if:
•
One or both of the DTCs listed in the Condition is stored.
•
The bit for MIL on shows "1" for one OTC only (Figure 1).
Scenario B is the cause if:
•
Both of the DTCs listed in the Condition are stored.
•
The DTCs were stored at the same time.
•
The bit for MIL on shows "1" for both DTCs.
2. Depending on which scenario is present, replace the defective part:
For Scenario A:
•
Replace the combi valve of the bank with the OTC that caused the MIL to illuminate.
For Scenario B:
•
Replace the vacuum solenoid valve that controls both of the com bi valves.
