TOPIx - SSM72668 - Brake Disc Friction face corrosion clean up procedure Reference SSM72668 Models F-PACE / X761 Page 1 of 1 F-TYPE / X152 XE / X760 XF / X260 XJ / X351 Title Brake Disc Friction face corrosion clean up procedure Category Chassis Last modified 26-Feb-2016 00:00:00 Symptom 301000 Service Brake System Content Issue: Excessive corrosion on the vehicle brake disc friction faces which could result in brake noise and/or judder or Customer dissatisfaction due to poor cosmetic appearance. Cause: Environmental influences where the vehicle has been stored or has had little use. Action: Inspect discs, if corrosion is excessive i.e. there is a heavy layer of rust, replace discs. If rust is not excessive, follow procedure below. Drive at 30-35 mph and brake to rest at a light to moderate deceleration (not heavy braking), accelerate normally back to 30-35mph. Brake again after approximately 1/2 mile and re-accelerate to 30-35 mph. Repeat this for a total of 20 miles, braking every 1/2 mile. At the end of this process, inspect discs. The disc is serviceable if the surface is mainly bright cast iron without any remaining large corroded areas. http://topix.jaguar.jlrext.com/topix/service/archive/630321/index 3/1/2016
