PURPOSE
In some cases, an inoperative fan may be caused by a melted connector at the radiator fan motor
and/or the condenser fan motor. When this happens, dealers are instructed to modify the wiring
harness for the connector, then replace the radiator and/or condenser fan motor and connectors.
BACKGROUND
If the connector is exposed to high temperature conditions for long periods of time, the spring
property in the female side of the connector malfunctions, resulting in terminal contact failure,
ultimately overheating the connector. The material of the female terminal in the new connectors has
improved heat resistance.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
•
2011 -2012 Outlander Sport/RVR vehicles built before September 2011
•
Lancer vehicles built before October 2011:
•
2008-2012 Lancer equipped with 4B11 engine
•
2008-201 O Lancer equipped with 4B12 engine
•
2009-2012 Lancer Sportback equipped with 4B12 engine
•
2011-2012 Lancer Sportback equipped with 4B11 engine
OVERVIEW
1.
Confirm and identify the inoperative connector.
•
Radiator fan motor
•
Condenser fan motor (not applicable to Outlander Sport for U.S.)
2.
Replace the affected fan motor, following the instructions in this TSB.
Be sure to replace the flange nut (P/N MB605081) with a new part, as it is NOT reusable.
3.
Regardless of the fan motor connector abnormality, implement the harness modification described
in this TSB, and replace the connectors with the new parts.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Identify the faulty connector and fan motor. Replace the affected fan motor if connector is melted.
Refer to the Service Manual, group 14 - Engine Cooling - > Radiator - > Fan Shroud Removal.
NOTE: Replace BOTH connectors regardless of connector condition.
2.
Modify the cooling fan harness as shown below to create a sub-harness.
NOTE: Refer to Parts Information in this TSB for the correct Fan Harness Kit.
a.
Cut the root side of the cooling fan harness at the front harness side.
b.
Remove the vinyl tube, which is fitted on the cooling fan harness.
c.
Wrap the 2 wires with vinyl tape about 100 mm from fan motor side, as shown below.

Slide the heat-shrinkable tubing over the
soldered part, then use a heat gun heated to
approximately 212°F (100°C) or higher.
The tubing will shrink onto the joint.
