Under WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION, the information was updated. BACKGROUND A surge, vibration, or judder may be felt while driving under light acceleration. To minimize the possibility for the judder to occur, a software update for the transmission is available at the customer’s request. Additionally, the transmission fluid will be replaced. If the judder returns after the software update, refer to Service Bulletin 17-040, Vibration While Driving Under Light Acceleration After Software Update. CORRECTIVE ACTION Update the A/T software, and replace the ATF. Do only the update listed in this service bulletin. You cannot apply the updates with the MVCI as a standalone tool. To update the vehicle you must use the MVCI or the DST-i interface in conjunction with the J2534 Rewrite PC application on the i-HDS. If there is a problem with the update, leave the ignition turned to ON. • To prevent PCM control unit damage, do not operate anything electrical (headlights, audio system, brakes, A/C, power windows, door locks, etc.) during the update. 1. Make sure the correct odometer reading is recorded on the RO. 2. Update the PGM-FI software by selecting the i-HDS Diagnostic System icon. Refer to Service Bulletin 01-023, Updating Control Units/ Modules. Page 2 of 4 3. Select J2534 Rewrite. 4. Select Start, then follow the screen prompts. NOTE: Do not enter a bulletin number. 5. After the update is done, start the engine, and let it warm up to operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on). Then, position the vehicle on a lift, and turn off the engine. 6. Remove the ATF filler bolt and the sealing washer. 7. Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported. 8. Remove the ATF drain, cover. 9. Remove the drain plug, and drain the ATF. 10. Reinstall the drain plug using a new drain sealing washer, and torque it to 49 N·m (36 lb-ft). 11. Install the ATF drain cover. 12. Lower the vehicle, and remove the ATF dipstick (yellow loop). Page 3 of 4 13. Refill the transmission with ATF DW-1 through the dipstick guide opening; bring the fluid level between the upper and the lower mark on the dipstick. NOTE: Always use ATF DW-1 (Genuine Honda automatic transmission fluid). Using a non-Honda ATF can affect shift quality. Automatic Transmission Fluid Capacity 2WD 2.3 qt (2.2 L) at change AWD 2.7 qt (2.6 L) at change 14. Insert the dipstick into the guide tube aligning the notch. 15. Start the engine. Hold at 3,000 rpm without load in Park or Neutral until the radiator fan comes on. 16. Turn the ignition to OFF. 17. Remove the dipstick, and check that the fluid level is between the upper and lower mark on the dipstick. 18. Insert the dipstick into the guide tube aligning the notch with the guide tab. 19. Return the vehicle to the customer. If the vehicle comes back with the customer indicating there is a judder, go to service bulletin 17-040. END Page 4 of 4
