RE:
Stop Sale/Safety Recall: 2014-2015 Accord L4 & 2015 CR-V Connecting Rod Bolt Torque
On February 26, 2015, American Honda notified NHTSA of a Stop Sale order and Safety Recall for 98 2014-2015
Accords and 39 2015 CR-Vs. Any new or used units in dealer stock must be repaired per S/B 15-017, Safety Recall:
Connecting Rod prior to sale. Refer to the eResponsibility report or VIN Inquiry to determine which units in your
inventory are affected.
Affected vehicles should not be sold until the repair has been completed. Should an unrepaired vehicle cause any injury
or damage because of the required recall repair, the dealership will be solely responsible to the damaged party, and will
be required to defend and indemnify American Honda for any resulting claims.
Basic Problem
Connecting rod bolts were not properly torqued during engine assembly due to an equipment error. As a result, there is a
risk of an engine stall during vehicle operation, which may increase the risk of a crash.
The Repair
All affected vehicles require replacement of the short block.
Service Bulletin
In support of this recall, S/B 15-017 will be posted on February 27, 2015, and will include repair, parts and warranty
information related to the recall. Make sure that all steps in the bulletin are followed to ensure a successful repair.
Parts Information
Please refer to the service bulletin for the full list of parts needed to complete this repair. Short blocks are available at
this time; however, due to the number of ancillary parts that are needed to complete this repair, please be advised that
some of these ancillary parts may not be currently in stock.
Warranty and Repair Information
Warranty and repair information will be detailed in S/B 15-017, which will be posted on February 27, 2015.
Customer Notification
American Honda Motor Co. expects to begin customer first-class mailing notification at the end of March 2015. However,
it is American Honda's intent to proactively call customers in advance of the notification mailing.
As always, please be sure to check in VIN status to determine if a particular vehicle is eligible for this recall.
