Service Instruction
1. Connect the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) service tool or equivalent scan tool to the data link connector (DLC). Check for DTCs. Is P0C2A stored in the powertrain control
module (PCM) memory?
(1). Yes – proceed to Step 2.
(2). No – refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01 for normal diagnostics.
2. Using IDS, access transmission fluid temperature (TFT) parameter identification (PID). If TFT is below 38 ºC (100 ºF), run engine at 3000 RPM until specified temperature is achieved
(approximately 2-4 minutes).
3. Using IDS, with key on engine off, command the transmission fluid auxiliary pump on using PID, TRANS_PMP_CMD to operate the transmission fluid auxiliary pump and vary the duty
cycle from 20% to 90%. Is the transmission fluid auxiliary pump operating?
(1). Yes - reprogram the PCM using IDS release 104.03 or higher. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates.
Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraftservice.com.
(2). No - replace the transmission fluid auxiliary pump. Refer to WSM Section 307-01.
NOTE: ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO
LEARN THE TRANSMISSION'S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RELEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
